Well done Scotland........

Because the home nations were playing internationals before fifa was formed. Plus the rules committee ifab is made up 50% by the home nations who aren't likely to vote themselves out of existence.

So England is a region in Britain/United Kingdom, you cant for argument sake get an English passport like in a real actual National State.

All I'm say8ng is that before other nations played football, england wales Scotland, ireland were playing "internationals" against each other.

Fifa was formed but the home nations didn't join until a compromise was reached allowing them to join as separate members.

It is a political compromise; nobody is claiming it is consistent.

The world is full of such things. Relax and enjoy it.

World Cups are crap enough without letting almost 1/4 of the world qualify for one. The point of qualifiers should be to get rid of the crap. I don't support any national team, but if I did it'd probably be RoI, but their fans carrying on like they've won the WC this week when they've only qualified for the next round of qualifying has been cringy af.

If Nathan Collins was your captain, it would feel like a World Cup win too.

Is England a nation really or just region of Britain?

I get they are allowed compete in some yet not all sports as a nation.

Well, they're not a 'people' or whatever - which usually goes along with national borders. There's no 'English race'. It's like saying 'the American race'. They're just Heinz 57 varieties.

Scotland and Liverpool are now welded together in my mind.

That win last night was immediately crowned with Dalglish-Robertson-Jota talk.

Ben Gannon-Doak was 'ex-Liverpool man', Ben Doak.

Even the manager Steve Clarke was talking about Dalglish.

Liverpool FC are traditionally a Scottish club: team of Macs, more players from Scotland employed by that lot than any other club.
Your mind is cooked.

What about Naisy? Surely he is the fly in your Anfield ointment?

It’s that contradiction with say England not actually being a national state that confuses external people mate when it comes to such matters internationally. Its probably just accepted if you’ve always lived within it. But it’s actually exceptionally odd for externals as every other country is generally a recognised national state.

It’s probably an insecurity were some of the hyper nationalism comes from, like this thread and stuff like Brexit etc. it’s very curious.

It’s like:

“Im English lad, hate the Scottish”

“Alright mate show us your English passport”

“Don’t have one”

“Right, what passport does someone in Scotland have”

“Same as us, but we hate Scotland”.

Makes no sense, like your nose being annoyed with your ear. More or less slices of the same pie as regions of a whole.

As explained above it’s a bit of a freak of history as non national states being allowed compete with other actual National states.

I wonder would a United Kingdom team be considered in the future - prob do well!

I’d be on board with a whole island Ireland team, would even drop the Republic name etc.

English is just a language with no nation. Just like Latin is a language with no nation.

It's why the calls for an English parliament fall on deaf ears. It doesn't make sense.

Gammon's and their even more hateful offspring spray-painting roundabouts and zebra crossings with a red cross cant change that.
