Is England a nation really or just region of Britain?

I get they are allowed compete in some yet not all sports as a nation.

Always wondered this. Why is it GB in the Olympics, tennis etc, but then they are England in the commonwealth games?

I don't think any Scot is too bothered. It's getting there that counts. The team is very average.

Too give more athletes the opportunity to participate I'd say, as it's a lower standard.

Less countries in the Commonwealth games.

We couldn't allow Scotland and Wales to compete by themselves in the Olympics as they would have no entries.

Let them have a chance to taste what it feels like to win for a change.

Because the home nations were playing internationals before fifa was formed. Plus the rules committee ifab is made up 50% by the home nations who aren't likely to vote themselves out of existence.
