I think if the right players are played in the right positions and we get Baines back 4/2/3/1 will work.
We need to stop conceding silly goals hence the need for 2 DM
I’m not saying Baines will have the same impact as Coleman but the difference an overlapping full back made on weds was frightening

Unfortunately Baines no longer has the legs to be an overlapping full back, but he will stop us being a liability on that wing. He can sit back and wait for Bolassie to fall on his backside after trying 5 stepovers instead of getting a cross in.

With only 10/11 games left and Baines playing for a squad place next season I’m sure he will put in a shift in every game
Not Coleman sized shifts but we will see 3 or 4 runs every game.
Enough to get the opposition right side thinking and give Bolassie a freer rein

Yes, which is what happened last season

EDIT - although it would just mean that one of the top 6 had to win The FA Cup as the runners up don't get a place anymore

Since that rule change, these days 7th is practically nailed on for Europa league qualification. No one outside the premier league will win either cup - the gap is too big. And barring exceptionally kind draws which pitch the top 6 against each other so only one remains by cup final day and then a fluke of Wigan proportions on cup final day then yes 7th will be Europa league practically always now and imho it’s about the only thing of achiement that we and any other team outside the financial 6 can realistically achieve. I am convinced Moshiri’s plan is to aim for 6-7th every year.

You meant the CL winner to be outside the top 4.

The fifth slot is only activated by CL or Europa winners not making the CL via league placing. If both were to be additionally in the CL then 4th drop to EL

So 4 + 2 - 1
