Have you seen the effects of one of these monster shopping areas in the surrounding area? Most local shops close down, and town centres are deserted. This sort of development is a very two-edged sword. There is even a term for this, WalMart Effect:
Word Spy - Wal-Mart effect

Ah yes, eeeeeevil Walmart.

Let's get our FACTS straight before we start parroting the liberal talking points of eeeeeevil Walmart and how they put mom and pop out of business while enriching their capitalist crony shareholders.

:dodgy:

I was told something similar,Tesco have a truely awful track record of ignoring objections and by-laws prefering to just pay the fines and people are worried it will happen there.nothing whatso ever to do with us

it's a dead duck now,
i've been told that the amount of objections against it are massive , just about everyone with a shop for a 15 mile rad, skem , st. helens everywhere, if they take that into consideration it just wont happen, it's all to do with tesco's and they have been knocked back before i other cities and towns with less objections.
maybe with the city situation then lcc will want to get a big ground for sharing to help get both clubs back at the top, as they have given more profile to the city than anything else (maybe beatles), and think how many norwegian tourists would be over every other week, used to payin' £8 a pint with money to burn.

Funny, the last time I checked we were being told that Kirkby was a "done deal". This time, why not actually wait until the enquiry. Its not a done deal that it will be rejected. That is precisely why there is an enquiry.

Many other objections have been rejected in public enquiries.

I'd personally rather wait and see.

Yes, I do think that a company that treats it's workforce the way Walmart has done is quite evil. I wouldn't want to work there and thankfully I don't have to, but some people don't have a choice.

But maybe the Walmart Effect isn't quite the complete explanation on what I meant. I have seen some town centres that got a big whopping store, both before and after, and I can say they are much less people-friendly these days. Those small shops and cafes have shut down in the city centre, because people don't go there anymore. Problem is, we people aren't very rational: most people say it's nice to have these shops, but when someone sells stuff fractionally cheaper, we buy it there.

And this is pretty off-topic...I just originally wanted to point out that things are not as rosy as Tesco, KMBC and Everton paint it.

First I think that both you and Suits need to keep this discussion civil. It is of interest to others on the board. (no I am not an admin, but i don't want this forum to go the way of others where people think it funny to insult people at the drop of a button)

touch harsh on me, i didnt throw names around and talk of bans.

i enquired about some clarification regarding certain stadium options and have been ignored and or talked around.

though now it appears a picture has been built up about 'someone' and that individuals actual agenda.
