Was he any good ?

He was the best keeper in the world for at his peak, and that was for several years.

One of the genuine legends of the club that Evertonians will be still talking about for many, many years to come.

Had the pleasure of talking to him 3 or 4 times, his love of the club and desire to see us compete and win shone through each time.

A fantastic guy and Evertonian.

I voted 'No'. The word 'great' wouldn't do him justice never mind 'any good' as per the poll. If he'd been English and playing for the RS or Utd in this day an age he'd have been a God. Never looked the best in a suit though tbf

With all this doom and gloom around Koeman. Lets just have a simple Poll was Neville Southall any good?
I can understand some of the younger members voting "not sure" as they have never seen him play, but the 5 who voted "no" must have been on a different planet.

I remember in 1985, the year we won the League and ECWC, he came 4th in the Ballon D'or. Not to be confused with the current FIFA version this was the old European player of the year awarded by some French magazine. It was highly unusual for GKs to get anywhere near in the voting so make of that what you will.

From memory, I think Andy Gray and Peter Reid also made the top 10 that year.

Quite sad that he's having to whore himself out.

Rather bizarrely, if you pay him £600, you can get to go and sit in the kop and watch a Liverpool game with him.

Quite why any fan of either Everton or Liverpool would want to do that, is beyond me.

Obviously davek voted "not yes" but who are the others? I only seen him when he was "crap " and he was still amazing... my favourite player ever

Couple of suggestions, the 'No' should be removed from the poll and the 'not sure' should be changed to 'never saw him play as I wasn't old enough so can't comment'...Thanks

PS he was the best and if you were too young to see him, try and see if you can find clips from Sky One's The Match, circa around 2005 where even heavily overweight and in his mid 40's he was still making saves that defied belief.

I loved it when he ruined that Georgie idiot from big brother's dream of scoring at st james park lol
