Transfer money has to come from somewhere. We can't magic money out of thin air. Our operating profit last year, not accounting for transfers, was about £100k I believe. So unless we borrow money that is what we have to invest. Add in transfer activity and we lost around £3m last year I believe.

So if we're losing money year on year, where exactly will money for transfers come from?

Sky TV

Which is included in the profit and loss. We have Sky money and still make a loss.

Yeah but it was reported that we had £17m for transfers plus whatever sales we made. So that makes £27m. We have spent £17m on two players, so we should have £10m left.

Unless something dramatic happened and we had to eat into our budget.

The £30M loan the club secured after the last transfer window shut maybe?

So how did we manage to buy Yakubu after whilst making a loss?

What about AJ?

There has been ONE year in recent times that Everton have made an operating profit, and that was when we sold Wayne Rooney

Every other year since then we've made an "operational" loss - yet we've spent £8.6m and £11m respectively on new strikers...

We get about 30m from sky or whatever, then we must get more from the likes of Setanta, B.T vision and the BBC. I just don't see where all that money can go when we have one of the smallest squads and strictest wage structures

most clubs operate at a loss.

so where does their transfer money come from then?

"most" clubs sign players, yet shouldn't be able to according to yer man's logic there

Well they get investment, they get loans, they re-mortgage. I'm basically saying that there are only clubs like Chelsea, Man U and Arsenal who operating at a profit due to the marketable assets at the clubs.

It might help to look at the accounts. They're available on the OS.

I think that may well fall to our flexible friend.

Cost of Kirkby?

We don't have a strict wage structure at all. We spend something like 70% of our turnover on wages.

It's hard to believe that in this time of all times we still get people expecting us to spend beyond our means. Is the credit crunch not happening or something?
