Keep an eye on scottish football and while i have a real soft spot for Celtic, you have to give our ex-boss some credit for what he's done at Ranegrs this season. This time last year, Celtic strolled to their title and it seemed they were well ahead of Rangers. This year though, he has really turned them around and a potential quadruple is really on.

Perhaps he was the victim of simply being at Everton at a really traumatic time and he is a lot better than what we thought and indeed experienced at Everton. Got to admit that at the time, I gave him grief but having seen what he's done up there, maybe he's a lot better than I and many Evertonians gave him credit for.

The Rangers fans seem to love Walter and always look at me with disbelief when I tell them how crap he was at Everton. But the Scottish league is crap and Strachan seems to be pretty poor at Celtic at the moment. Let's face it, any manager who managed either Celtic or Rangers would finish 1st or 2nd.

Thats hakf the story though mate. Celtic were so much ahead of Rangers in the summer that Smith had a real job on his hand to claw it back. The fact they look odds on for a deomestic treble and have a real chance of doing something in the UEFA Cup suggests he's done a real good job there.

You could argue that they were lucky in the UEFA cup, being gifted goals by the opposition goalkeeper. And like mentioned, Strachan is seen by the majority of Celtic fans as a liability now. Lots of these guys are even suggesting Celtic make David Moyes an offer!! If these guys are right about Strachan, then Walter has simply taken advantage of Celtic's poor management and league form.

Smith took over and ruined the one successful team Souness ever put together. His occupation of the managers seat here was the most calamitous appointment a part from Mike Walker. His sides lacked ambition, they had no flair and he totally ignored the rest of the club allowing the bully Archie Knox to walk rough shod over the rest of the club. His signings were in the main a load of has beens

His appointment as Scotland manager was the only job open to him and he did restore some pride back into that team, Vogts had made such a mess of it the only way was up. His move back to Rangers surprised me but then again no one else wanted it. His first signing was Davie Weir, he knew all about him from his Goodison days. Weir tightened that defence up, he did a great job. As for success in Scotland, I honestly believe that it is more down to Stachan's incompetence at Celtic rather than Walter a miracle worker because we all know he isn't one:o

True, but unfortunately, i think they have the beating of Celtic and ill be surprised if Celtic can pull it off. Best of luck to them though

and I have said it all season, Stachan will get the push and we will need to worry(n)

I know Walter was not great or even a good manager at goodison but we dont know the behind the scene interference of Johnson I had high hopes when he first came, but then I have with every one from Carey onwards

although smith was incharge at a difficult time, i think part of his problem was his inability to show much faith in any young talent that was coming through. invariably he seemed to cash in & then blow the money on a more experienced player who actually offered less to the club once they'd been signed.

this forum somehow stole the piece i had written over some minutes, i am not happy.

smith operated with a hand tied around his balls.

that he was instrumental in removing agent johnson means he isnt all bad.

thats the abridged version.

I hoped he have gone to Sheff Wed actually rather than us. I had a Scots mate, the lad has died since, who thought it was hilarious that my team ended up with him, when he left Rangers he was considered a joke, lucky for him they appointed even bigger jokes to succeed him(n)

Rangers are the best of a bad bunch at the moment but should they as expected go on to win the league Celtic will have have dilusions that David Moyes is waiting for a call.

I do not like Rangers or Celtic at all but love Everton & Hibs - first post by the way b)

Welcome mate. I hope it is delusion, but Celtic are a big club and i could see why Moyes would think regular, guaranteed Euro football and the chance to win trophies would be an attraction. Hopefully, it doesnt happen but if they do get rid of Strachan, i have a nasty feeling Moyes would be one of the top names on their list
