Wages

Interesting table in today’s Times on average player wages (source: Global Sports Salaries Survey) putting us at No 7 in the premier league with average player salary of £3,252,690 just behind Spurs who pay £3.5m but way behind Utd £6.5m, City £5.9m, Chelsea £5m, RS £4.8m and Arsenal £4.8m

No wonder there is a massive glass ceiling between the Top 5 and the rest
Seems about right to where we are at the moment.

If or hopefully when we win something or gatecrash the Champions lge spots I would expect that figure to escalate quickly.

Surely Leicester prove that highest wages don't always equate to success rather than Spurs do.
Freak season in every sense of the word. Squad full of average players, by Premier League standards, Mahrez aside and Vardy who had his career purple patch and has been rubbish since. All the 'top' sides were too busy tripping themselves up and Leicester had the stars align like they had never aligned for anybody else ever. Absolute trash like Danny Simpson, Wes Morgan, Drinkwater etc etc getting medals. Great for them that they did it, but it'll never happen again.

There isn't. Spurs have finished top four in the last three seasons (or four?) - shows the good job Poch does.

But ultimately the wages table always proves that you're likely to finish in a similar position in the actual league.

That table could be a little misleading if it doesn’t account for performance based bonuses of which bridges the gap between Spurs and the rest.

That’s the way I’d like us to go. If the players perform they get more. If they don’t then they miss out.

Spurs have the benefit of being in London which definitely helps to attract players. It’s a big advantage.

It's a one-off though.

I haven't seen the table, but I'm guessing Leicester will be about the 9th - 11th, so about the same position that you'd expect them to finish in the league.

Its worthwhile looking at how much of that wage bill is effective.

Schneiderlin on 6 mill a year, Sandro about the same.

Until recently Gana on 40k a week, belies belief when you look at the above.

There really are some mad discrepancies in our wage bill.

Interesting that Bernard has joined Gylfi as our top earner 150k a week, shows the value to a player of a free.

Kante was the reason they won.

what's really sobering is that even player wage money and transfer fees are pocket-change to the people who actually own football.

perhaps more than even the political bribery and tax evasion, the reason they still get away with it is that the sums they've hoarded away are, for most of us, literally unfathomable

He'd probly want putting up in a hotel suite that is 50k a night when he comes to have a butchers at Goodison..

I would expect we do the majority or persuasion at the Liver building. We probably have a projector that beams a mock up of Bramley Moore Stadium onto the site, similar to Count Dooku's Hologram Death Star.

This

All contracts offered from now on should be a maximum of 50k a week, this will ensure the wage bill comes down
This will ensure that the only players coming to Everton will be Niasse and McCarthy level.
If I'm honest I would agree with you, but I want you younger lads to see and feel some of the highs of seeing a successful Everton.
