Bystrov also known as Dave was included in Guus Hiddink's Euro 2008 squad. He was a substitute in Russia's opening match having spent the prevoius night on the ale, the 4-1 defeat to Spain, coming on for Dmitri Sychev in the 46th minute. Bizarrely he was resubstituted again in the 71st minute, being replaced by Roman Adamov. He also came on as a late substitute in Russia's third match against Sweden as he had again been on the ale the night before.
