2025/26 Vitalii Mykolenko

What would be my question is who went for the £8m on a left back that hasn’t challenged at all last season, and will that same person or process be trusted to find the right left back this summer?
Yeah and it’s definitely a fair question. The bit that I’m clinging to is that a fair proportion of our transfer committee wasn’t in place when he signed last summer, so I’m putting my trust in them now they all are… for now anyway*!

(*’til Soucek arrives)

We need two players for every position and we might struggle to buy one more left back this summer, never mind two, given all our other priorities, so it makes sense to secure Myko. In an ideal world, Aznou would step up in pre-season to really challenge him, but I don’t feel too confident.
I expect Aznou has had his agents out and about for the last 6months trying to find a way out for him.

How does keeping mediocre players make sense? It’s just more problems on the pitch waiting to happen mate.

You watch any decent side in this league, the full backs offer a threat going forward, help the player who is in front of him out and come up with some assists or dare I say goals. This lad doesn’t offer that.

This is the issue we always seem to have other priorities, right back has been neglected or poorly recruited for years, and now we have the same problem with left back. It just goes on and on and it’s deemed a good decision to retain players who contribute to us being nothing because we have to play catch up somewhere else in the team.

Hes one of the "toys" the manager needs taking off him so he doesn't play him.

Mykolenko is a very poor footballer and not good enough for the PL. We need a new LB but moyes will play him every minute he can. At the detriment to the team
While I agree with you. He is too good to let go for free. Hopefully we'll sign another left back who can pass forward.

At the moment, he feels like a Barry to me - if someone offered you your money back, you’d grab their hand off and start again… but as they’re not going to, we need to try really hard to develop them and make it work.
I'm not sure it will be totally in our hands though, he moved on from Barcelona, jumped out of Munich. The lad seems to expect to be playing and not sure he's going to wait around here if he wouldn't at Munich.

He's one player we would get the money back for.

Moyes is restricted in his ability to drop this player as long as everyone swoons at the sight of a blue and yellow flag
