Transfer Rumour Virgil van Dijk

As have Everton Dave ... and just perhaps others outside the club are quietly starting to believe that and would enjoy being part of the journey ...if people see "the project " as having legs, then we would see more interest from transitioning players who want to step up too .... VVD ... even Rom may be thinking just that
Fanciful. That's not happening without a major, City-type, boost in investment because it's patently obvious we dont have a manager who can get to that point through coaching.

imagine we had sold stones and bought VVD and goalkeeper...darn it!

Martinez responds to reports suggesting Everton will bid for Celtic star Virgil van Dijk

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has told the Daily Mail that he is interested in signing a new defender - but wouldn't be drawn on whether he will target Virgil van Dijk.

The Toffees have brought in Tom Cleverley and Gerard Deulofeu this summer, but having allowed Sylvain Distin and Antolin Alcaraz to leave the club on free transfers, Martinez may need another centre back.

That need could become even greater, with The Guardian reporting that Chelsea are poised to lodge another bid to sign Everton's 21-year-old defender John Stones. Should the 21-year-old leave Goodison Park, Martinez would need to find another partner for Phil Jagielka in the heart of his defence.

With that in mind, speculation from The Scottish Sun just days ago suggested that Martinez was prepared to pay £10m to land Celtic star Van Dijk, who has been a sensation in Scotland ever since his move from Groningen back in the summer of 2013.

Martinez was asked about his alleged interest by the Daily Mail, but responded by saying it would be 'disrespectful' to comment on Van Dijk given that he is a Celtic player.

"That's the nature of this period, you are going to be linked with players," said Martinez. "I don't enjoy talking about other players when they are not at our club and I will never be disrespectful in that manner."

"Our squad is not complete. We are still looking for two positions and we need to make sure they fit exactly in the group in the manner we want and expect as footballers and people. Central defence is one of those positions. Two experienced centre-halves left the squad, so we need to fill those gaps," he added.

Really can't see VVD going ANYWHERE in this window, much as I would love it.

I would be very, very surprised, nay, gobsmacked if he turns up at USM Finch Farm. I refuse to get my hopes up on this one.

This, he and southampton will both wait till the summer.
They still have a chance of silverwear so
1) southampton will want to keep there strongest side possible and van dijks value will not decrease between now and the summer, ot may even increase (e.g us with stones)
2) van dijk surely will prefer to wait till the summer to move again- a chance to win something with southampton or come to us and challenge for 7th? Plus he will want to weigh up other suitors

Biggest part on all this is you'd have to think if we gavecstuck a bid in, then with koeman and VVD having both changed over to the same agent last year, then the agent must have given the manager the green light on the player being willing to move.

Would saints sell mid season is the biggest question, with the agent and personal connection between koeman and the player, don't see us being used on this.

Now what price would it take for saints to sell mid season....

You heard anything mate.

If I was VVD's advisor, I would recommend that he doesn't move to Everton as he is a UCL level player who can easily get a move to a UCL team in the summer if not this month, on that basis I refuse to get even slightly excited in any way, shape or form.
