Victor Anichebe - what can we expect?

It's not racist to call someone lazy if he happens to be black, just like it's not racist to call out a bad driver who happens to be Asian. Or a paedophile who "happens" to be Scottish.

I repeat, Jelavic is far lazier and far more of a liability on the pitch, yet he gets the fans full support. Disgraceful IMO and an insult to Vic.

Not saying anyone attacked him for being black directly, but a lot of stereotypes, that some associate with black people, were being bandied about. Lazy, carthorse etc. which, considering it was the poor blokes first game back from a long injury, crossed the line in my book.

Look at the support Jelavic gets when he is far less committed and a complete fraud IMO.

Would happily swop Anichebe for either Jela or Kone.

Oh [Poor language removed] off.

He was getting abuse for being lazy because he was being lazy. "Not saying anyone attacked him for being black directly" there we go then, not racist abuse.

To say a load of people gave him racist abuse because they called him lazy and there are apparent stereotypes about black people being lazy is a f*cking disgrace.

You should be embarrassed that you've just said that.

To make the perfect Victor Anichebe you will need the following:

Take one Emile Heskey and dampen it so it has a worse scoring and injury record.
Add Nicolas Anelka but before doing so remove any resemblance of footballing talent so you are just left with the sulking.
mix it into a solid dough and form it into the shape of heavy weight boxer.
Lastly to finish, season it with the courage of the lion from the wizard of oz ( prior to meeting the wizard)

Te he he!!!

if he starts well for you then he could be a good signing - he needs to get his confidence up. He's strong, fairly quick and capable of holding the ball up well. Was our best striker last season.

If he doesn't score or play well early on in his career for you then I fear your fans might jump on him (particularly if there's already a feeling you've overpaid). If the crowd gets on his back then you'll see more frustration in his play which will lead to more falling down, moaning etc (happened all the time with us).

Needs to improve on his overall awareness and his movement in and around the box

I'm sorry to see him go. He's got bags of talent he just needed the right manager to get it out him.

He's a massive, strong lad, but don't hit high balls and expect him to bring it down and hold off the defender. However if you play to his feet, he'll hold their whole team off, and is capable of bringing others in to play or turning. He came through an Academy that didn't hit long balls, so he's far better at playing to feet in and around the box. He also has a footballing brain in what he tries to do with the ball. Defenders hate playing against him, I've seen many experienced, centre backs arguing over who should pick him up.

I thought he may have gotten a better chance in a side with fewer long balls, and was looking forward to seeing how he progressed with that. He's quick and strong, and those kind of players tend to shine a little later in their career as forwards. His finishing isn't top drawer but it's getting better.

I'm sorry to see him go. I'd rather have sold Jelavic or Kone.

He seems to struggle for confidence at times but if Steve Clarke can get him fired up and motivated then you've got a very good player who could turn out to be a bargain.

This post deserves praise FFS

Spot on in every way!

Right I'm going to say what others will not, and expect some abuse towards me for saying it, but it's my opinion and reflects what I've sen of Vic, and in particular our fans behaviour towards him.

Vic is one of ours, i.e. he comes from Liverpool, and for this reason we have perhaps judged him more harshly than he has deserved. Certainly while other strikers have been pushed aside (Vaughan, McAleny, Yakubu, AJ) his raw physical skills have kept him at the club and indeed he signed a new contract in the not so dim and distant past.

Last year at the club was his best and he was probably our best forward (not saying much). However, he is still better than both Kone and Jelavic, without a doubt.

Now our fans relationship with him. I do think the fans reaction towards him at times was unacceptable, most notably on his return from injury at West Ham last season where he took some frightful abuse from our fans (I was sitting among them), and it was only when he scored in the second half that they shut up. Now I dont like to throw the word racist around lightly, but a lot of the times I have sat with fans both home and away, and if he heard the kind of abuse that was being thrown at him, I'm not surprised he was affected, and yes I would say it verged on racial abuse.

He will get more support at West Brom, undoubtedly and his raw physical talent alone will be enough, if he starts regularly, to score 10-15 a season IMO.

So a guy who scored 30 goals in 160 odd appearances is better than Kone 'without a doubt', despite the fact that the latter scored 11 from 34 games in his first Premier League season ?

Give over. Kone has more to his game than Anichebe ever will.

Basically like this guy - meat head but limited in talent

I did like Vic in the end though. Probably would have preferred him to Kone and Jelavic so far this season tbh

Happy to see shut, 6 years to long, the only thing he ever done was the goal against Kharkiv and he even nearly messed that up

All the best to him at West Brom 6 million is a steal!

p.s still have him here than Kone tho (y)

Yes, he would certainly go through the pain barrier for the cause, when the going gets tough, the tough get going, that was our Vic

Well, there are two things there. One is that Jelavic doesn't get full support, far from it. The other is that, if he did, you'd suggest it is because he's white and Vic's black. Quite a claim.

Anyway, WBA fans: sorry, Vic's nowhere near as good as Lukaku. If he stays fit you might get a 10 goal a season striker who puts in three or four decent shifts a season.

I was never Victor's biggest fan.

I'm much happier with Lukaku.

Also, lets leave any race question out of this. It's unnecessary, wasn't part of the original WBA fan's query, and obviously we will take action against anyone posting racist views here, more than likely being an instant perma-ban, as usual.
