As we've got ourselves a change in Bank Holiday days thanks to VE Day it does raise a thought that I've seen said elsewhere - why is it still such a big thing? Bunting (Union Jack) sales have gone through the roof so is this just a case for rebased patriotism and jingoism? Or is there something more behind the celebration? Is there anything to be learnt by celebrating VE Day with the old 1940s/50s style British love?
