VAR

It's not even any good for offside. Do they have the right ange to draw the line from? Have they picked the exact split second when the ball was kicked to correctly show that the attacker's index finger was offside? If it was a perfect system/interpretation then i'd have no problem with it. The problem is that the rules of football are so open to interpretation and people (managers/players) will take every advantage of that that they can. As it is, it was better without VAR, when it was just down to the ref/linesmen. They'd get some decisions wrong but (resonable/neutral) fans would be more willing to accept that as human error.

Fingers don't count when offside is being checked though...

I think we have a generational problem too. The other week Anthony had his foot trod on in the box. He had released the ball and was leaning back so was in no position for a give and go, Var intervened and a pen was awarded, a joke of a decision. I mentioned this to a couple of work colleagues who are late 20s early 30s both match going United fans who agreed with me. A lad wet behind the ears teleclapper only 18 said it was a stonewall pen. The TV and pundits are slowly sanitizing us as viewers. Young people are brought up watching blatant gamesmanship disguised as been a foul. The amount of times you see every week a player lose control of the ball and throw themselves on the floor and buy a token foul is beyond the pale.

VAR is pointless in my opinion as they still pick and choose when to bother using it. So you might aswell just stick with the refereeing system that worked for a century before VAR.

Like they didn't even choose to look at the shirt pull on Onana. Why have the technology if you still have to throw yourself to the ground or force the officials to use the technology?

And the disallowed goal.. never in a million years was that a foul on Royal, he got caught in possession and crumbled to the floor. VAR made it look like a foul by giving pause frame slow motion repeats of it which don't give the whole context.

But yeah.. I just think VAR is pointless when its never applied properly and consistently

The forest lads sending off was as ridiculous as it gets. Terrible decision on the field that VAR cant get involved with. Wasnt that the whole point of the dam thing.
Already one of the worst things to ever be introduced into football

Regardless of the result yesterday. It's genuinely ruining the game. To the point I don't really want to go anymore nor pay a subscription to watch it. It's bad enough having biased refs or linesman.

It's not rugby were it this type of technology can work.

It wouldn't be better. It would be much, much worse.
That wouldnt surprise me, I am one for not agreeing when you hear abou ex players would somehow make the so called right call, just because they played the game if a Ref etc. You dont need to have played the game for me to make a right call. no matter what it is or was - I Will always stick to never liking VAR no matter what.

VAR is a joke plain and simple, it relies on humans making a decision, which is exactly the same as before.

Some decisions are right, and some are wrong....

Until they get it right, and they never will, because of the human element, we make a tonne of mistakes... it will always remain falable, open to question. All it does now is sensationalise things, and denounces the influence a referee, or linesman has, diminishes their role...

As i said, i think its an utter joke

There's no reason why a player couldn't be a good ref, as long as they do the training, but none of them want to be refs. They just use their positions in the media to belittle the current refs for their own purposes. But Danny Murphy doesn't know the rules, he proves that practically every week on MOTD. His like would be run out of Stockley Park in a matter of weeks. It's this kind of rubbish which led to the Niasse shenanigans.

If that's a foul then pretty much every challenge is a foul.. there'd never be another goal again if they were to start calling every slight contact a foul.
they're all fouls when slowed down because our minds paradoxically speed it up and it looks worse than it is
It's why a lot of films use slow mo to exaggerate a hit. Guy Ritchie, Zack Snyder come to mind
They were even using it for the bionic man years ago, slower made you think it was faster

this is an extract from the legal world but the principle still applies and it something else that those viewing and interpreting this footage will know nothing about.

In short, it states that when slowed down, cctv footage can lead the viewer to over estimate the amount of premeditation in an action. In football terms, handball and foul tackles both fall into scope of this where intent may be a consideration
