To be honest with offsides they have the technology to take it out of human control. A sensor on the ball and position of the last man should clarify an offside in less than 5 seconds and a message in the linesman ear immediately. They love the lines and the drama that’s the whole issue with the decision making and the game right now. It’s a reflection of society and it doesn’t reflect football in a good light. Everything is scrutinised. By the way I’m not blaming people in society im blaming the systems in place which are creating this. Social media has a lot to answer for but the genie is out of the bottle and things will never be the same. Im at an age where Alot of us on here have seen both sides of the coin but anyones below the age of 25 haven’t.
I heard the commentator say 'plenty of drama' while we waited 2 and a half minutes for lines to be drawn in Spurs v Villa.
No it isn't, it's just a waste of people's time and energy. It increases injuries due to players cooling down and time added on at the end and nobody likes it, at all. It's the reality TV element and algorithmic approach to entertainment. What are people talking about most online? The VAR controversies? Lets have more of that then, drives engagement etc.
In the age of digital marketing and financial reward for somebody looking at your content whether they like it or not, deliberately constructed 'drama' is rampant.
The fact there is resistance to the automated offside system tells us all we need to know about the League's priorities
Plenty more engagement online today after Wolves were robbed last night. Plenty more content for the various channels to waffle on about while the football itself becomes no more than a tool to drive it.
PL has built itself up with marketing over the years and is better at it than all other leagues, but we might be seeing the dark side of that lately
