Well judging by the Silva assault on Rohl...there's no limit on grappling and holding in association football. How much grappling and holding is allowed in the rules of association football?
If you take Arsenal out of the equation and that incident was not given as a foul I would have thought what on earth is the point of VAR as Reya was clearly being fouled in three ways - arm across his neck preventing him from jumping, hand on his arm impacting his ability to catch the ball and Todibo pulling his jersey from behind to mess with his balance. It's clearly a foul and I understand the rule is the first foul that has a direct impact on a play - a penalty cannot be awarded for a foul that may come after this. So the decision was clearly is it a penalty for Trossard and Pablo grappling beforehand or was that not enough therefore the goal has to be chalked off for the three fouls on the keeper. All the other incidents are irrelevant including Soucek grappling with Havertz.
The referee should have really blown in real time for a foul on the keeper as it was clear seeing it for the first time and it would have prevented all the subsequent hullabaloo.
I would rather not have VAR and simply rely on goal line technology and the offside rule to be changed to the "daylight" definition suggested by Wenger and the ball have a chip in it and be relied upon in that way including if it has crossed a line to determine whether it has gone out of play.
