I honestly don't get why they don't stop the clock when the ref is conferring with whomever and then to VAR. 2 decisions like that is minimum 5 minutes a match yet "the 4th official there will be a minimum of 4 minutes of extra time" even in the second half

Using VAR to check the position of the keeper’s feet when a penalty is taken is ridiculous. Not only are you using VAR just to use it, but there’s a referee standing right next to the goal whose only job during a penalty is to check for that.

Reading that there's a load of controversy with regards to the var in this women's world cup, 2 things annoy me.

1) Even if VAR gets all the correct decisions, media still label it as controversy. If a game has one decision going to var, they say it's controversial, that's not what controversial is. They all loved games last season when the RS were benefiting from no VAR, but they didn't call it controversial.

2) why aren't they calling out the officials, if so many things are being overturned it just illustrates the necessity of var, but the officials should be getting the blame for getting it wrong, not calling out technology.

Yeah, I mean these officials must be really thick or lazy if they can't do the one job there supposed to. Those extra officials on the lines as well, jee whizz.

The media need to label things controversial etc, otherwise what is there for them to report? It doesn't make good copy to just write about a boring game with no real incidents, they need to stimulate debate with their match reports, particularly now in the age of clickbait.

Also worth pointing out that decisions being overturned doesn't always mean the officials have made a poor call. Nobody really thinks the Scotland keeper being half an inch off her line was a bad call, but it gets overturned because VAR needs to be used. It's making officials look worse than they really are, and also leads to them not bothering to make decisions because they know VAR will intervene if necessary. This is something that has long happened in rugby and cricket, leading to numerous problems. It always make me laugh when people conveniently forget that (or just don't know it because they simply parrot what they're told rather than having any understanding of the games they're talking about) when talking about how successful it's been in those sports.

VAR isn't perfect, but I'm a supporter of it

I mean, it will DEFINITELY do Everton over at some points next season, but I also think it will probably help us going forward as well

Most of the decisions I've seen with it have been correct, with only really penalties being the issue thus far and they're subjective to begin with

The two big decisions in the England game yesterday were correct and the penalty probably wasn't given because England were 3-0 up already and the ref didn't want to escalate things further considering how despicably the Cameroon players were behaving

I'm absolutely made up with VAR, a minute or two to get the RIGHT decision is worth it to see a few gammon faced talk sport listeners explode. It's not infallible but as demonstrated little over 24hrs ago, it is working 100%.

I don’t know why the clock doesn’t stop every time the game stops.

Having seen it in use for a while now, I've totally changed my mind on it. I wanted it at first.

I just don't like it now.

It takes far too long.
Multiple decisions in last night's Copa America game went to it, and combined with Paraguay players constantly going down feigning head injuries so play had to be stopped ( 7 stretcherd off I believe only to run straight back on ) made the game virtually un watchable.

The thought of Mike Dean and John Moss using it will become a farce.

As will the inevitable sponsorship of a VAR breaks on the telly..

I really can't see them going to the break on a VAR call, that's cutting out a big bit of the theater. TV companies will love showing all the replays and having Carragher and Co pondering over what the ref will decide whilst we see the incident from 25 angles. TV is going to love VAR and will want it all televised. All the drama all the time. They'll probably go to the studio during the VAR delay so Souness can give his 5 quids worth

I am a supporter of VAR but have serious concerns of how it is actually going to work in practice.
It actually brings in the opportunity for more biased officials than we have now. They can track back on a goal
scored and look at the complete build up and find any possible reason to disallow it if they wish. Also the level of
inconsistency of the decisions taken by the officials using VAR will be worse than it is now without it.
The idea of seeing if a keeper is exactly on his line is a prime example.
In the CL semi final last season: Man City v Spurs - first leg, where VAR was used, Augero missed a penalty. However, a number of defenders clearly encroached as the kick was being taken. The defender who encroached the most was the one who kicked the rebound away for a clearance. VAR should have picked this up and the kick been retaken, but no. We have also seen examples of the ref studying the screen for minutes on end then literally shrug his shoulders and go with the original decision made. I can see the Egyptian Tom Daley at Klanfield getting all sorts of ridiculous decisions for penalties next season. Also, as a fan at the match, you will not be able to celebrate a goal before it has been cleared by VAR. How crap is that going to be?
If it was used as originally intended it would be a positive introduction. However, I can see it actually ruining the game in the long term. Of course time will tell, but the first weeks of next season are going to be serious fun & games!

Noticed the lineswoman was flagging for offside before England's second goal. So if the goalie hasn't made an honest effort for the ball because she's seen the flag how can that be a goal? Not saying she did see the flag like but even so, players will stop if they see the flag.

That's what i thought maybe the Cameroonian players were complaining about, you see the defenders turn towards the AR before the goal is scored.

Of course everyone knows that you play to the whistle and the AR's flag is simply to get the referee's attention. Cameroon should not have stopped playing even if the flag did go up, they have no complaint really.
