Speaking to the official;

Andy van der Meyde insists he feels like a new player after being welcomed back into the Everton fold following a breach of Club discipline.
The Dutch international, who celebrates his 28th birthday on Sunday, was suspended earleir this season after missing training.
It was the latest in a catalogue of problems for the midfielder, who has endured a rollercoaster ride since arriving at Goodison in 2005.
He has been restricted to just 18 Barclays Premier League appearances in his two years at Goodison, thanks to injury, loss of form and loss of favour.
But the mercurial winger returned to training with the rest of the Everton squad this week and admits it feels like a new start at a new Club - aided by the fact the players are beginning to switch from Bellefield to the new training complex at Finch Farm.
He told evertonTV: "I am very happy to be back part of the squad.
"It is not nice training on your own. It is hard and you have to push yourself. You aren't playing games or shooting at goal and you miss that."
It has been particularly frustrating for van der Meyde because, for the first time in his spell with the Blues, he has had a run of uninterrupted full fitness since the start of pre-season.
He added: "This is the first time I have been fit and not in the team. I hope to get my chance and if I get it I will not let it go.
"It is frustrating. I love the ball. I like to play with my teammates and have fun in training. I don't like watching from the sidelines, I hate that. I want to be part of it.
"We have a lot of games so my chance will come. I was back with the squad (at Sheffield Wednesday) on Wednesday and that is important.
"People get injuries and with the number of games people get tired so there will be chances for me.
"I do feel like a new player. Today I went to the new training ground and everything is new for me now. It feels like everything is fresh and there are no problems anymore.
"Bellefield was nice and had its charms, but with the new training ground it feels like we have a new fresh start. I want to be part of that."
He has built bridges with the management staff following the issues of the past.
He added: "I hope everything is forgiven and forgotten. We have to focus on football now and I hope Everton win a lot of games, with or without me. I still want to be part of it of course."

Speaking to the official;

Jesus Christ, He's a changed man for the 3rd time in his Everton career....oh well, might aswell give him the benefit of the doubt. I am sure he'll [Poor language removed] it all up again and get shipped out in the summer but still we can dream of a great VDM.

Well its good to hear. Sure we have heard most of it before, and you know VDM will [Poor language removed] up again, but we're so short of width and creativity that if he does well in training id forget the past and put him in the team if I were Moyse.

he's back. fresh from his latest reincarnation as a dedicated 100% fit player.

The third coming of Everton's saviour.

Something tells me we should shove him straight back into the first team before he gets depressed again and forgets why he was put on €ods' green parks...

...and drifts perpetually into damnation.

Don't know if you're joking or not Leonbil but I agree.

Put him in the first team straight away (not necessarily the starting lineup but at least on the bench) and get him involved asap. Everyone agrees that with current injuries, we're lacking a bit in the midfield.

Watched his interview on Everton TV and it sounds like injuries and fitness issues are behind him now and it's all up to him.

its a shame really as he has become the boy who cried wolf.

but currently i couldnt give a crap about his let downs in the past or wether he is gonna be successfull in the future for us.

football isnt that important especially when tragedy strikes as it has for vdm.

he is a human just like the rest of us and has a sick child.
my thoughts are with him and his family and i just hope everything turns out ok for them.

if things also turn out well on the pitch then thats just an added bonus for him and us.but that shouldnt be the most important thing in his or any of our lives.

The only reason VDM is still at the club is that in the close season nobody came in for him and no surprise at that. Who would want him. He has had chances. The only reason Moyes did tell him to sling his hook is a matter of the compensation he would demand.

I'll tell you what, I've given this a bit more thought.

Here in the USA, most fans usually get teed off if a player doesn't give it his all on the field. Most are willing to overlook minor (emphasis on minor) off field transgressions if that player gives 100% when selected. Nobody here takes into account the salary of the player, and they don't hold it against a player if they've been battling injuries. Once they're on the pitch, court, gridiron, or diamond, they want to see the player perform and do their best so that their team has the best chance of winning. If a player steps over the line, they get disciplined, fined, and usually apologize to the fans and to their teammates for their behavior. They also end up in the manager's doghouse for awhile.

If the player has been involved in something major, like illegal activities (a la Michael Vick) or he's a cancer on his team (a la Terrell Owens) then that's a no brainer. You cut 'em lose and in some cases, you may be able to recover some salary.

What I don't get is Everton supporters who just want rid of him pure and simple, regardless of how many "chances" he's had (at last count, some have put it as high as four but for me, it's just one long story). He hasn't been a cancer on the team to my knowledge. He hasn't been involved in illegal activities to my knowledge. He's made some poor decisions to be sure, and he's been disciplined for it as he rightly should have been.

I think I would completely understand if VDM had ample time on the pitch and subsequently, played as if he didn't care about the shirt or at the very least, didn't play for professional pride. I believe Everton have had a few players like that in past days. I could understand Everton supporters wanting rid of VDM or any player if that were the case and I'd probably be the one leading the charge for Moyes to send 'em off to different pastures.

However, VDM really hasn't been on the pitch much and a lot of that (not all mind you) is down to fitness and injury issues. I'd also say it wasn't easy for him to settle in England. Won't be the first time that's happened to a player.

So, he's close to fit, supposedly past his injuries, and hopefully has learned what his manager and teammates expect of him. I've got to figure that there's more to this from Moyes' point of view than just trying to save face due to a bad signing. Why has he kept him this long and gone through this whole ordeal with him? Wages owed to him? Nah, Everton FC is big enough to eat a players contract if they had to. No, there's something else to it.

I want to see him on the field and get a run of games. If he's terrible, then that's the way it goes and chalk it up to one of Moyes lesser buys. But if it works out, it's like a new signing, we get something out of him, he helps the team win, and worst case, for those who'd still be critics, we might be able to get something for him in the transfer market.

So try this one again.

Other than Arteta, who can produce the flair we've been lacking in the midfield? No one other than VDM. But for Evertonians to just want to get rid of the guy or banish him to the reserves, how about we banish some of the players who haven't consistently produced for us and don't create what we need in the midfield. To take a leaf from the "Let's Bash VDM Book", they've had their chances and they ain't cutting it, get rid of, immediately.
