USMNT - The Pochettino era

Crowd sizes will not be an issue come the World Cup.

People are reading too much into a game that took place at 4pm on a Thurs afternoon during LA rush hour. The 3rd place game can't really be judged either IMO

We have issues with turnout in general for the national team, but the world cup is entirely different. It's literally the only time the country collectively cares about the sport. I think people attending will have an amazing time, and I'm sure the venues will look amazing and packed for the games.
Prices were also outrageous for a tournament that no one cares about

As for the national team, turnout is fantastic when they are world cup qualifiers, which are usually held at soccer specific stadiums, which are also where the best atmosphere can be made. This just goes to show that these big "tournaments" are just money grabs in which results don't really matter - US Soccer does at least still have the wherewithal to admit that atmosphere matters for qualifiers.

I do generally agree on World Cup though. The cost won't matter to most b/c if nothing else it's a "let's post this on Instragram" moment

Trouble is the illegal immigration crack down seems to have turned a lot of folks off travelling to the US for the World Cup.

Folks I’ve spoken too who were happy attending even the last WC are saying this so these reports of foreigners being deported and or detained for spurious reasons like criticism of Trump are not doing the US any favours.

Then two of the three co hosts having beef with the US means it’s not as attractive as it should be.

So domestic crowds may have to make up the difference if it stays as it is

Nevermind both games were during the first weekend of March Madness…Horrible scheduling decisions all around.

Football fans flocked to Qatar, they wont have any issues with going to Naziland.

Mate I’ve seen Iran have qualified but none of their citizens are allowed to visit, that includes the players where most are born in Iran.

I have also spoken to guys who were planning to go and they have decided to swerve it.

If your watching a game in Canada/Mexico and needed to travel to the US for the next game you will have to negotiate US border and customs personnel.

Well, they will probably have issues then it seems, but I meant more I doubt it stops many.

Would be nice if everybody swerved it tho.

I’m a bit nervous about going there now. I always end up in secondary because I’ve been to Iran in the past. It’s always been totally respectful but I’ve been reading some worrying stories about secondary recently. People having their phones taken and things like that

Gold Team rosters out. Several players taking a break after long seasons, dealing with injury, or CWC commitments. But goodness me, some of these I've never heard of.

GOALKEEPERS: Matt Freese (New York City FC), Patrick Schulte (Columbus Crew), Zack Steffen (Colorado Rapids), Matt Turner (Crystal Palace)

DEFENDERS: Max Arfsten (Columbus Crew), Sergiño Dest (PSV Eindhoven), Alex Freeman (Orlando City), DeJuan Jones (San Jose Earthquakes), Mark McKenzie (Toulouse), Tim Ream (Charlotte FC), Chris Richards (Crystal Palace), Miles Robinson (FC Cincinnati)

MIDFIELDERS: Brenden Aaronson (Leeds United), Tyler Adams (Bournemouth), Sebastian Berhalter (Vancouver Whitecaps), Johnny Cardoso (Real Betis), Luca de la Torre (San Diego FC), Diego Luna (Real Salt Lake), Jack McGlynn (Houston Dynamo), Quinn Sullivan (Philadelphia Union), Malik Tillman (PSV Eindhoven), Sean Zawadzki (Columbus Crew)

FORWARDS: Patrick Agyemang (Charlotte FC), Folarin Balogun (Monaco), Damion Downs (FC Köln), Brian White (Vancouver Whitecaps), Haji Wright (Coventry City)

Gotta be honest, I"m happy the big boys like Pulisic are gonna sit this one out. They need a rest and playing in front of dozens of adoring fans this summer isn't what they need. Peaking for next summer is what matters. And that means being healthy to start next season, both physically, and more importantly, mentally

Yanks love an event/party so of course the WC will have no issues with attendance, even if many from outside the country would prefer to skip visiting the country. Doesn’t mean the ambiance will be good but attendance won’t be an issue

The passionate MLS fans understand what matches are like but the casual fan isn’t going to have a clue and wonder why no one has knocked an opponent out after 20 minutes of kicking it back & forth…when the scoring starts, or when the timeouts or commercial breaks are going to be

I remember being in Pasadena when Brasil played against US, the Brasilian vibe in the city was electric even before they got to the Rose Bowl. I don’t expect similar is even possible without fear of being run over

There are no casual soccer fans in the US as you describe it.

Those people won't care the World Cup is happening, mate. Instead they will be attending MAGA rallies
