Usmanov

Yes its fair to say his spokesman did provide adequate ammunition for the 'no interest in Everton' line to be fairly widespread following the sale of his share holding in Arsenal, and previously to that there was the long held view, with good reason, to think that he wouldn't sell his holding at all. He had after all been on record as saying that the Arsenal holding is a long term commitment which he would keep within the family, or words to that effect. Undoubtedly his long running frustration with the situation of a large minority shareholding and no power whatsoever and his continuing and now lost battle with the major, shortly to be majority, shareholder Kroenke, changed his mind.

The now widely publicised interview he gave with Bloomberg earlier this month seemed to contradict 'the no interest in Everton line', this time the man himself too, not his spokesman's interpretation of his intentions.

Usmanov “doesn’t exclude” a more significant investment, he said.
“We are friends with Farhad Moshiri,” he said. “If he needs the support, I am happy to help.”

“Should there be a proposal or a possibility to invest in them with good potential returns, I would consider the deal,”

"Any deal would have to allow the 64-year old an element of personal influence over operations and management"

Is also a very telling quote, meaning any deal to get such influence is likely to involve the purchase of a significant block of shares.

It would need a majority holding in combination with Moshiris and a large enough block to effectively rule out anyone else acting contrary to his wishes, to my mind it would have to involve a purchase of a proportion of Moshiri's holding too.

Like your post;)

Also I have said it before and will say it again there is an awful lot going on behind the scenes than we know. Ity is being kept quite dark.

If he is already funding us indirectly over and above the USM sponsorship, as I and some others suspect, then I'd imagine it will become clear soon enough over the course of the next two windows, even in the absence of anything more specific.

As it is I thought the club were a little bit more generous with spending this summer than I anticipated. Considering some recently poor seasons, poor and no progress in Europe, managerial pay-offs, and what would be further expected austerity to prepare for a stadium build, the spending surprised me a little.

We'd still need quite significant spending in each of the next two windows to give us even a sniff of competing, and could do with a striker in January.
If we spent north of another £40m net, you would certainly have to question where the money is coming from, and how it implicates FFP regulations.

I take Esks view from a position of neutrality, but on more than one occasion in the summer he seemed to suggest a period of spending and wage restraint was in order, and that we had to start living within our means. I thought this was a reasonable analysis at the time. We've made savings, but as I see it, not to the degree that a club that needs to rein things in, would have to.

There is also a very strong likelihood that the 'private' portion of funding for BMD will supposedly be from Moshiri's own funds - upwards of £200-£250m. Either this is an extraordinary act of personal generosity from Moshiri given that it would represent a hugely significant percentage of his personal wealth - hardly -, or, that funding is going to come from a much bigger pot and that, in the absence of any commercially sourced funding, could only mean Usmanov.

To me, even the hardball we are seeing regarding Lookman suggests a club not in need of an injection of cash quite as much as we thought.

This is a really good post. You can get bogged down in the intricacies of the press. Lots of it contradicts (though I think the most reputable papers-ie the business ones put the link strongly) for me it's about observing events.

The Esk (and others) did predict a summer of austerity. We didn't get that. We got another significant spend. He has written that off that the austerity will come next year. I'm not so sure. If it does then I will be happy to re-evaluate. However all the time we spend more money than appears logical than we have, it points heavily to outside investment.

Thats a fair point. Most of the respected journalism has him coming here. That means more to me than the guff sports journalism.

I don't go along with the idea of him and Moshiri being different blocks though. Or him having to own Moshiri's shares. Mossier is at worst a close business advocate and best case his right hand man who will do as he wants. If they were going to do it publicly it would make sense for True Blue Holdings to purchase the club and they can then sort out what portion of the control they each want internally.

Everything Usmanov said at Arsenal indicated he wanted influence, and what that translated too was representation at board level. I can't imagine Moshiri will have any problem with that.

Usmanov gets a portion of the growing revenue of Everton and the area around the stadium, he gets a rep to make sure his interests are represented and he trusts his multi-billionaire lieutenant to ensure it runs smoothly. It works perfectly for him.

Yes definitely, True Blue Holdings taking over, or in effect buying the club either totally or with a majority stake, with both Moshiri and Usmanov sorting out the control they want internally within TBH, is really just another mechanism they could use to achieve the same purpose. By owning a significant portion of True Blue Holdings, after the takeover he would, in effect, have the same influence and control, and he would almost certainly operate in conjunction with his friend and business partner.

Thats very much how I would see it going if it were to happen. I can't see Usmanov wanting to be centre stage for various reasons. He would quietly by into True blue holdings. I think they take a majority share, and may well do what FSG have tried going forward, which is to get another partner in somewhere down the line to pay back what they have paid in exchange for a % of the clubs ownership.
