Rumour has it that Idris Elba is being considered to be the next James Bond. I'm all for that, but they're going to have to reboot the franchise if he gets the role aren't they?

I mean, there's going to a be pretty conspicuous continuity issue otherwise (Unless of course they say that the "code name" of James Bond can be passed down to the next 007, and make it part of the story that it's actually a different person)

I dont see how Idris Elba fits the profile of bond whatsoever...

Other than his accent, I think he fits the profile of Bond perfectly Zat.

I`m sure he can do " posh " if he really tries.

The continuity isn't an issue if they just make it clear that the name James Bond is purely an alius in the films for diffrent 007 agents. The majority of films have always been so diffent to the books that continuity in the films has never really been an important thing for me.

My problem is his age, Isn't he in his late forties? Surely whoever they pick for the next Bond needs to be younger then that, since presumably they're going to be needed for at least two more films after his first. Yes I know, Moore was a similar age when he did his first Bond film but I always felt he was to old for the part too.

If we are going to have a black Bond, then Chiwetel Ejiofor would be a far better choice.

I mean Idris Elba is a great actor but I am not sure he could come across as someone who would kill someone else and find it funny, unlike this:

The Bond films have never really had a strong continuity or being too bothered by it until Daniel Craig. They're all pretty much standalone films with the occasional awkward nod to past films such as George Lazenby rifling through a drawer full of items from the earlier Connery films or the daft pre-credit sequence to For Your Eyes Only. When Connery reprised the role for Diamonds Are Forever there wasn't even a nod to his wife getting murdered by Blofeld in the previous film.

Each film is just a different story using a lot of the same characters. Considering when Dr.No was set it's pretty much ridiculous to try and incorporate any sense of continuity. It was perfectly set up to go back to standalone films with the character Bond after Skyfall but then they shoehorned that clunky retcon into Spectre.

Fun film that. Shame a sequel just doesn't seem to be happening. Cavill was good in it but I can't see him as Bond - just too big and square jawed.

Indeed, though to be honest I can't think of a film he hasn't been fantastic in.

I don't think anyone did. Firefly was watchable but none of the episodes are anywhere as good as Serenity, even the one in which a young Christina Hendricks tries to seduce a young Morena Baccarin.
