Underachievement

I don't think it has anything to do with being a good player. It's all about reputation, and this stigma and dare I say it, bitterness that Everton just can't seem to shake off.

We have an incredible lack of self-belief, so much so that the manager has to come out and say it - which I find ludicrous. I believe it's not just with the players, its throughout. Manager, directors, tea ladys, fans. We all don't believe.

That is why I believe David Moyes can't take us anywhere because he has already subscribed to this. We need someone to breeze into this club, and say right that's it. This is what we are going to do, and this is how we are going to do it.

It's going to start from the top down. This is the plan.

Everyone is so scared of this glass ceiling, or this lack of money. Considering we have no money, we have some pretty good players. Time for excuses are gone as far as I am concerned.

True. Its the winning mentality.

To me the only players that look to have that are Fellaini and Cahill IMO. Fellaini hasnt really ever had a terrible game in my eyes. If he's not playing well, he's still putting it about and getting involved. Same with Cahill.

The RS for example still have your Caraghalars, Gerrard's, Torres', Reina's, Johnson's etc who - because of the occasion - turn up after being mediocre for weeks and deliver.

We get too insular, too indecisive before when its 10minutes before the end, throwing the kitchen sink and hope something comes out of it.

There's no wonder why a few seasons a go a tackle got the fans on their feet and led us to an unbeaten run in the prem. We've seemed to lose some fighting spirit.

Well I'm sick of reading about "Great Team Spirit" - that's just "Dogs of War" recycled. I want to see some football, passing, runs, intelligent strikers who give players options. It's basics really, especially when you have players who are able to pass. Oh and the odd shot from outside of the box wouldn't go amiss.

So, the full time whistle goes on the 22nd May 2011. You glance at the league table. What would you regard as underachievement?

I'd go with

4th - Miraculous.
5th - Good.
6th or 7th - Satisfactory.
8th or 9th - Poor.
10th and lower - Disastrous.

You've nailed it in the first post!

I'm expecting 7th, but come Christmas I might want the title; such is the life of an Evertonian :P

Agreed, people underestimate the power of self-belief in a footballer. Those two would fit in most easily with the atmosphere at a top team.

I still have faith in the players to be honest, a few of them are really good, although we probably do overrate them a bit. We just need a philosophy that resonates throughout the club, we don't really have one.

Its why I wont be surprised when Fellaini goes at the end of the season. Lad's got bigger fish to fry.

In the unlikely event that we have an FA Cup Final to look forward to or the League Cup in the trophy cabinet, anything mid table I suppose would be ok.

Let's wait for Landy an' see , for me , mate .

We're in the bottom 2 yet are 6 points from 4th place or some [Poor language removed] .

Wait an' see .

4th & 5th. To have a chance of this wel need it to be in and around lowest total points needed for 4th , which is poss, reckon there will be a gap between top3 and the rest.

6th & 9th. This is where i reckon wel be, things will have to improve quickly for 6th or 7th, and tbh im not liking our next 2 prem fixtures at the min.

Failure to get back into europe is what i would perceive as underachieving this season, so you would have to take our cup runs into account too, finishing anywhere in the bottom half doesnt bare thinkin about but sadly at the min is quite possible.
