If united win on sunday - and next weekend Everton, Chelski, Arsenal and Man U win the prospetive quarterfinals - will sixth and seventh places become Uefa cup spots ?

obviously this is provided we dont [Poor language removed] up bigtime in the league of course (y)

8th i think? If United win, it goes down to 7th and if we win the qrter final and others expected too then we will have secured our place in the cup so it will go down again....i think

Nah its 7th like Daza said.

5th in the league, Carling Cup and Fa Cup will provide our Europa League participants next season.

If the teams who win the 2 cups have already qualified for Europe via the league than the places go to the next highest finsihes in the league : that being 6th and 7th.

So assuming Man U win on sunday and us, Chelsea, Man U and Arsenal make the semis we should be pretty much guaranteed European football next year unless we **** things up big style from now on and finish 8th.

There might be a fair play place this year but i'm not sure. Sure as hell we won't be winning that though!

How I understand it:

We have 3 UEFA spaces to fill. These normally go to 5th, the FA and League cup winners.

Assuming the League cup and FA cup is won by a top 4 team, then an extra 2 places go to the PL, which means 6th and 7th place qualify. In other words, we're looking solid to qualify for next season's competition.

But there is also the question about the where the old intertoto cup place goes? As I understand it, the team that would have qualified for the intertoto via their league placing, bypasses the now defunct competition and enters the UEFA cup at its first round (rather than round 3). So effectively, if the above happens, 8th position should also be enough to qualify. I guess teams would still have to apply to enter the cup, just like they applied to enter the intertoto.

So basically, it could well look like this for the UEFA cup:

Arsenal/Villa
Everton
Wigan
West Ham (1st round)

Oh yeah, and if there is a fair play play (as mentioned above) another team could join the party. It could well be that half the teams in the premier league play in Europe next year (4 in the CL and 5 in the EL).

Wigan got gutted over the transfer window. They won't catch us and I can't see WH catching up to us either unless we completely go to s#$% and if that happens we probably don't deserve UEFA football anyway.
