Transfer Rumour Tyler Dibling

It’s starting to border on obscene figures in that case, as we’re paying for the fact that he will “likely” be a good player in a couple of years.

And I worry that the figure will be used as a stick to beat him with when he isn’t pulling up trees right away.

I agree. Which is why I think we shouldn't be spending that amount of money.

£20mill tops and thats being generous.

I always wondered what you had to prepare. Since all the paperwork is the same except the 1 number you can edit....seems you could have that second bid done in about 20 seconds. Maybe you have to wait a couple days to pretend you are thinking about it even though before you bid you already knew you were willing to go higher.
I think its fair to say none of us have any idea how high level transfers happen, the dance they perform.

Its stupid, as you say, why stop negotiating, it would take me 1 phone call, these fellas ain't got a clue.

Surely if you are a competent organization you have already discussed all of that before even the first bid. You know your max, you've discussed how they might respond, what other terms you can offer to sweeten the deal, examined the financial situation of the selling club...

I dont know a low level deal where someone hasnt already thought about their second offer when crafting the first one. None of it should be a surprise...
Well it depends what the answer to the first bid is in terms of why it's turned down. Did they just want more money in general? More up front? A sell on clause? More easily achievable add ons? All of the above? You can't prepare a changed bid without knowing what changes are being proposed. You're obviously also still negotiating, you don't just say 'they said they want this so whack it in', you're still trying to get a better deal for yourself.

They haven't really played on the pitch together, they've spent half their time in a 3-5-2 with McNeil at wing back.

I do have to say, I get the 3-5-2 in the first match of the tour, he had no options. To roll it out in the second match is just daft. We should never be playing that, the first half of these matches we should be putting our best foot forward.
That's true but individually we know that historically they aren't *great* contributors, and despite the formation, the pre-season has shown roughly what we knew about them all as players anyway. I think it's more a case of some of them probably being used as bench options and some as starters. I reckon Ndiaye is a nailed on starter but McNeil, Alcaraz and Beto are all players that we will look to improve on. We have already looked to doing so with Barry for Beto. I hope that Dibling is a good signing for the future but doesn't look at improving end product next season over Alcaraz/McNeil so I hope that our next signing for CAM/LW/RW is someone that does.

I think any fan that holds a price tag against a player is an absolute bone head. They have no control over it and we all know the games an absolute overblown mess.

Hold it against the recruitment team fine, not the player.

Makinga second bid immediately after the first looks a bit desperate. This isn’t an auction. Best to let the seller wonder for a few days if a new bid is coming and drag it out.

Because if you’re trying to haggle you always want to give the impression you have other options, you might walk away at any minute and each bid is as high as you are prepared to go. It’s a basic negotiation tactic to put pressure on the seller. The Friedkin did it when they bought the club originally. Southampton are left wondering for a few days if they are going to have an unhappy player or £30m to spend.
