The main thing I've established from this is a worrying amount of people genuinely think Everton should be buying a proven, established, exciting top class player for 40m who also has a potentially very high ceiling (but is also not a risk as he's proven).

I've seen people on Facebook saying we shouldn't be buying players that can't get in the top 6 first teams. As if we're gonna go and take their best players

Dibling has the higher ceiling for sure, and probably a tab more suited for that RW berth than McAtee is. McAtee is just obviously the more experienced player of the two.

Can understand walking away from a certain deal, but surely we can't keep walking away? Soton will know we're desperate to get players in. Wasn't exactly pokerface Moyes after the West Ham game. At some point something has to give. How longer it takes to get deals done, the more likely it is that it will be Everton that give in.

Why did we wait to last couple of days of July and into August?

None of this suggests any plan was in place, just going from player to player hoping for the best.

Kinnear seemed to think prices will go down in August.

I suspect the opposite, and Southampton will want more now the season has started.
