Lack of ambition prolongs uncertainty
Everton go into the final game still not sure of 5th place as an under-strength and under-motivated Arsenal grabbed the goal they needed to record yet another win over the Blues. Johnson led the line with Yakubu on the bench but it was Jagielka with the best chance of a pedestrian first half that at least saw Everton playing it on the deck, his header cleared off the line. Arsenal were there for the taking but Moyes seemed content to play out the draw, so Wenger put Traore on and he soon created a simple winning goal for Bendtner. Moyes belatedly responded with Yakubu and Anichebe for the last 10 mins but it was all so disappointingly predictable.

Under-strength? Yeah they were missing a few players, but another way to put it is a refreshed Arsenal side who clearly had the fitness edge over our lads towards the end. Also, we were under-strength without our two best midfielders in Arteta and Cahill.

Under-motivated? Hang on, last home game of the season, they haven't lost at home this season and if they clinch second they avoid the Champions League qualifying round and go straight into the draw for the group stage.

As for 'belatedly responded', I know a few on here agree but before we conceded we were matching Arsenal.

Dont get in a tiz....you know what the doom-mongers over at TW are like. Let them write their [Poor language removed]. Anyone who watched the game an knows anything about football understands what went on.

1pt againt the geordie mongs an were 5th an in europe again. Sounds good to me!!

What was the word Danny?

Whoppers?

Good one.

They don't have a clue and wouldn't know a football match if it was spelled out for 'em.

A certian Mr. Kendrick, wonder what a certain firendly Ghost would have made of it all, you can see him sometimes responding to Kendricks posts on T.W. hes N.T. right!

They love it when we go into a slump. When we were 10 odd games unbeaten in the new year, thumping all comers in Europe and marching to the semi's of the League Cup they were probably just waiting to have a bitch. A sad excuse for supporters.

You thought that was acceptable yesterday? Arsenal had their flip flops on. Second place? Realistically all Chelsea have to do is beat Bolton at home last game to secure that spot - Arsenal had/have no chance of it) and whilst we passed the ball into feet a little bit more than we have of late, we posed almost zero threat. When are the blinkers going to come off? That slump has been alarming.

Not really, but the season has been very acceptable. 5th place, semi league cup, great run in europe. What your problam, we'v look out of it since the euro game that we went out in. This is only because of the sixe of the squad an injurys an others not turning up(graverson, fernanders,VDM).

With a bigger squad it would'nt have turned out like this. Its still been a great season thou.

Plus when have everton ever done it the easy way?

They were playing their last home game of the season, they wanted to end on a high. They still had plenty of talent out there, whilst we missed our two most influential players in Cahill and Arteta. They only had one clear cut chance and they took it, whilst we made the most of our posession and created quite a few decent chances. We weren't great yesterday, but when a squad of our size loses two players of the callibre of Cahill and Arteta and comes up against one of the finest sides in Europe at their home ground we were hardly going to rip them apart.

This slump has been bad, but with the injuries building up, a loss of form was almost inevitable. Overall the season has been decent and a good sign of progress.

On current form, who really thought we'd get a result at Arsenal?

Seriously. They ought to have their head checked.

We've been woeful the past few months and that's down to injuries and fatigue.

Yes, it really is that simple.

I agree, the injury to Cahill made a difference, and to Vaughan and Arteta (although he has been available during this period). My point is that we have to have reserves far greater than that. All the talk earlier in the season about being in great shape squad wise was straw clutching. We have 13/14 with enough quality and experience to see us through. Its not enough and we need an injection of cash from somewhere to progress.
