Lack of ambition prolongs uncertainty
Everton go into the final game still not sure of 5th place as an under-strength and under-motivated Arsenal grabbed the goal they needed to record yet another win over the Blues. Johnson led the line with Yakubu on the bench but it was Jagielka with the best chance of a pedestrian first half that at least saw Everton playing it on the deck, his header cleared off the line. Arsenal were there for the taking but Moyes seemed content to play out the draw, so Wenger put Traore on and he soon created a simple winning goal for Bendtner. Moyes belatedly responded with Yakubu and Anichebe for the last 10 mins but it was all so disappointingly predictable.
Under-strength? Yeah they were missing a few players, but another way to put it is a refreshed Arsenal side who clearly had the fitness edge over our lads towards the end. Also, we were under-strength without our two best midfielders in Arteta and Cahill.
Under-motivated? Hang on, last home game of the season, they haven't lost at home this season and if they clinch second they avoid the Champions League qualifying round and go straight into the draw for the group stage.
As for 'belatedly responded', I know a few on here agree but before we conceded we were matching Arsenal.
