TV Series

Once upon a time in Iraq is so grim.

Worth a watch this, thought it was really good and really sad. Binged watched the 5 episodes on I-Player.

America foreign policy leaves a lot to be desired. They got this badly wrong, not just the WMD but they just had no idea about Iraq itself.

The bit with the America Colonel who seems a very decent guy and went their with the right mindset of helping the people.
However war shows that even good people can lose it and do regrettable things.

what’s interesting also is that the majority of the Iraqis spoken to would rather have Saddam back.

Saddam himself said to his interrogators that they had no idea what they have done by removing him from power. The country will destroy itself and become a hot bed for terrorism much worse than before the war. The Americans of course completely ignored him as they knew best.

history shows us that Saddam was right.

Just finished all five episodes of once upon a time Iraq, I’ve seen just about every iraq documentary going and this is comfortably the best and most impactful one I’ve watched.

Of course they do.

Alistair Cooke he of 'Letter from America' fame nailed them in one of his first broadcasts in about 1946.

Gist; American foreign policy is based on the false belief that deep down all the world really wants to be like them.
And they can't understand when the rest of the world tells them they don't...they just want to be left alone.

Not much has changed.

I've started watching The English Game. It's written by Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey) and charts the crossover of football from a 'gentleman's game' to a game for the working man, including the first crowd fight during a game between local rivals Blackburn and Darwen. It's typical Fellowes and concentrates on Old Etonians, Darwen and Blackburn, and also throws in the usual toff with a soft heart played by Charlotte Hope who played Myranda in Game of Thrones. Made a change to see her with her clothes on.

Prior to that I watched all three series of The Sinner with the excellent Bill Pullman

Please dont smirk, but took a deep breath and set aside a few hours to watch the first three episodes of Breaking Bad after being prompted by many to get into it and I'll get hooked.
I will stay with it if only because I have already developed a strange fascination with Walter's wife. She is incredibly seductive especially when she gave him a five knuckle shuffle in first episode.
