I side with the army as Erdogan is jailing journalists critical of him, never a good sign. But it's unclear how popular regime change might be. And it seems that the army isn't all of the same mind.So the army are the good guys here? Like doing what's right and trying to oust their president man?
Sorry, just trying to understand

According to my mate, it's got nothing to do with the army wanting to make sure Turkey remains secular, but instead has a lot to do with someone called Fethullah Gülen, someone Erdogan has issues with... Erdogan was apparently worried that some elements in the military held allegiances to Fethullah Gülen, despite him being all the way over in Pennsylvania, USA. lol But who knows... That's just the most popular rumour at the moment. So the army are the good guys here? Like doing what's right and trying to oust their president man?

I claim to be no expert but it's my reading of the situation.Sounds messed up. Thanks for the info.
RM will pass the Tanks off the streets wining the possession - seriously though Turkeys army is a huge danger to world events let's hope it calms down?I'm off to bed, let me know who won......

In your opinion.
I made it clear. IF some of the things going on under Erdogan were happening.
They're not. So pipe down
But if you are going to take the huge step of a coup against a democratically elected government (no matter how vile he is, Erdogan was still elected), you had better make sure that at least one but preferably more of the following are true a) all the the senior military leaders are with you b) leaders in rival domestic political parties support you c) you have wide public support for the move d) a well armed external government that will provide support.the President recently pressured a prime minister into resigning because the PM did not support a new constitution extending presidential power.
The military, (who don't report to either the prime minister or the president), have a duty to defend the republic against any threat to the republic, even by the government. They have no intention of holding power, just removing the president before elections are 'reheld'.
