For £4m, it would be a bargain. He can play pretty much anywhere in midfield. These types of deals have Moyes written all over them. Good signing in my view, assuming he doesn't want top wages.

Would still like to see one big name come as well.

He is on huge wages IIRC. 65 K a week.

FWIW I'd offer £ 8 Mill without thinking twice. He is a very good player IMO. And exactly what we are missing, though you already got Cahill.

Not for me, just cos he's quite good doesn't mean we should spend some of our small budget on him, It'd be a waste, we need a RB, RM.

Not sure how meaningful this poll is, as we'd almost certainly have to pay a lot more than £4m to get him. I'd have no problems with paying £7-8m though.

First reports mentioned £4m.

If there was only our bid on the table, I suspect they would accept, considering hes on £60k+ a week.

Have to say, £4m does sound cheap for arguably Boro's most effective player. I would think a few clubs would take him at that price. As such, the bidding begins.

One thing, I wouldn't pay him £60k a week. That's £20k over our top earners, some of which are actually better than him. If he wants £30k, then we can talk.

Sadly, I think this won't happen. But at least he won't end up at Newcastle. :D

Agree. If other bidders come in, the price will inevitably shoot up. If not, Boro could be forced.

£20k over our top earners? It would be £5k wouldn't it? Sure our top earners are £55k? - I very much doubt many clubs would match his Boro wage, he is on so much at Boro because they got him on a free.

I'm almost certain that Yakubu, Arteta, Cahill and Neville (ffs) are joint top earners, and are all on £40k a week. Maybe I'm wrong, I just don't think I am. Moyes is the biggest earner, and is on around £65k a week.

boro got him on a free, so if we pay 4 million for him that is pretty much what they paid for his wages.

pretty decent signing for them at the end of the day.

The papers also had Lescott tripling his wages to 120k a week. I'd imagine he is one of our top earners. Happy to be proved wrong but I thought 40k was our limit. (Moyes being the exception and rightly so.)
