Went about 20 years ago after a long nighttime drive over the Hatta mountains from UAE….two hours at border control with three of us in a drunken stopper wasn’t a nice experience heading into a ‘dry’ country….especially when our Indian driver proclaimed we had guns in the boot. They were spray guns, but didn’t stop a very rough search.Has anyone been to Oman? If so, any thoughts on it welcome...
Lots of investments being made and properties going up all over the place so tempted to have a little dabble next year.
I feel like I could have written that in the late 90’s early 2000’s….worked there for a week every 6 weeks for a good few years. Absolutely deplored the place….we used to call it the sh#t hole in the sand. The lack of human decency and disinterest in sanitation was awful. Went back once with the wife and some friends around 2010 and couldn’t wait to get home. It’s as false and nauseating as all the big-lipped, polished orange low budget influencers who flock their like flies around a turd. Here is one reporter's take on Dubai(??):
I went to Dubai wrongheaded. I learnt nothing and left nauseated. I had thought it would be fun – funny, even – to experience the disorientation of standing at the pivot point between two world systems. Instead, it was merely disorientating – sickeningly so. There are hells on earth and Dubai is one: an infernal creation born of the worst of human tendencies. Its hellishness cannot be laid solely at the feet of the oligarchs, whose wealth it attracts, nor the violent organised criminals who relocate there to avoid prosecution. It is hellish because, as the self-appointed showtown of free trade, it provides normal people with the chance to buy the purest form of the most heinous commodity: the exploitation of others. If you want to know how it feels to have slaves, in the modern world – and not be blamed openly for this desire – visit Dubai. But know that you will not be blameless for doing so. Every Instagram post, every TikTok video, every gloating WhatsApp message sent from its luxury is an abomination. A PR campaign run by those who have already bought the product, and now want only to show you that they can afford it.

Both are lovely, Porec just hits the spot more for me. Love the place, especially early May or late SeptemberConsidering booking a stay in either Rabac or Porec (Croatia) next year. Look to be small old town area's. Anyone been?
It's a really small city. Walk up to the fortress - it's hard work but beats waiting an hour for the funicular. Get lost in the streets/alleyways by Mozart's birthplace. Take a day trip to Hallstatt.HI im going to salzburg in March, can you kindly give me any recommends or stand outs at all pls?
Obvs markets won't be there, but anything else would be appreciated.
TIA
In addition to @Bkk Andy 's recommendations: Mirabell palace and the gardens (although there might not be too much in bloom at that time of year). Stiegl-Keller near the fortress (local brewery restaurant). Walk up the Kapuzinerberg on the other side of the river from the fortress. Berchtesgaden might also be worth a day trip if you haven't been up the Eagle's Nest before. Brush up on your Mozart and Sound of Music before you go.HI im going to salzburg in March, can you kindly give me any recommends or stand outs at all pls?

Weighing up doing a road trip to France next year. Just weighing up where to base ourselves - Normandy or Brittany. I've read Normandy is more 'French' and full of historical sites and Brittany is more celtic in vibe, less crowded and a bit more rugged in terms of landscape. Anyone offer any insights to either or both?
Ferry options would be Plymouth or Portsmouth overnight. Neither make any odds as it'll be a long drive to each port.
Been to both and enjoyed them equally.Weighing up doing a road trip to France next year. Just weighing up where to base ourselves - Normandy or Brittany. Thanks for the Bratislava trip. We originally planned to do Bratislava and Vienna in July, then Mrs blueloon said we should do Munich with a day trip to Salzburg , that worked out very well , both great places. Only snag was I said we didn’t need our passports on the day drip to Saltzburg , the border police who boarded the train on the way back had a different view, we got away with a stern “ Next time .” All the Germans had ID cards, my driving license didn’t cut it but was better than Mrs bl’s who was preparing to offer photos of our cats on the basis of what could be more genuinely British than thatI'm in Salzburg. What a great little city. Very walkable and it's buzzing at Christmas with markets and concerts in the old town. Well worth a visit.
Unlike Bratislava...it's a day trip from Vienna if you're box checker (which I am) but there is very little to see and do. The highlight is a statue of a head poking out of a manhole cover.
