They're practically giving away hotel rooms here in Thailand at the moment in the off-season.

Was in Phuket last week in a 5* place right next to the beach for £45 a night for two with a great buffet breakfast, going to Khao Lak in two weeks to an even better 5*, JW Marriott, for £38 a night (high season price about £150) in an absolutely stunning location.

Probably get a room upgrade too as a repeat customer. Ace.

How did you find Ischia? Planning on going Sorrento next year, just wondering if worth the ferry ride over, but probs not much different than Sorrento tbf?

Ischia was amazing. Highly recommend and the ferry is only like 40 mins. Probably the best spot of the lot tbh, and all very different so worth seeing them all

Naples - frantic and raw, so many horns and shouting
Ischia - slower, peace, beauty
Sorrento - a nice mix of both

Is that because of the middle east issues?

What was the weather like?

Little bit of that I think, but the off season is always dirt cheap and the beaches are empty — it's heaven.

You have to get a bit of luck because obviously it can absolutely tip it down, but it's never raining all day.

Last week I was there 3 and a half days, only lashed down on one of the days, the others were beautiful sunshine.

I guess it's more of a risk if you're flying from across the world to come here, but it's definitely a risk worth taking imo.

This is the next hotel at less than 40 bob a night:

If you aren't a guest and decide to go in and purchase the buffet breakfast it's £15 each, and we've got two thrown in!

Which was the place in Phuket?

Lots of stuff online about how the Thai's have made a multitude of errors over the past few years and western tourists and alot of those on long stay have had enough.

THB hae been getting stronger for a while and Phuket has so many Russians + Pattaya too many Indians...

...local vibe has changed.

Usually phuket in a good 5* youre talking much higher even in usual offseason.

Yeah I moved from Phuket two years ago and one of the reasons was the invasion of Russians there, it's genuinely mad at peak season.

I fancied just heading back for a few days and ticking off all my favourite restaurants, hitting the beach and chilling. It was great.

This was the place!

A long shot this but I may as well give it a go. We go on a cruise around Japan and South Korea in a few weeks time, and one of our stops is Shimizu near Mt Fuji. We don’t want to pay for expensive shore excursions so are arranging it locally, but does anyone know of the best views of Fuji? Looks like Mio No Matsubara near to the pine forest is where we will go at present, but thought I’d check in case anyone else had been.

Heading off to Washington DC on Friday. Going for a music festival only, plus I'll be watching USA v Paraguay at a local brewery there with some friends. Not doing any sightseeing as I'd probably just want to burn everything down.
If you can spare a few hrs for the Holocaust Museum you won’t regret it, like wise a visit to Arlington Cemetery.
Very underrated city is Washington
