whatever went on with vinny samways, big capture at the time but was garbage for the club and spent most of his time out the first team.anyone the inside track on that ??

I was made up when we signed him, I was only a kid but he looked a good player, and you're right he never did anything much for us.

Anyone remember the Walker/Naughton deal?

We were in personal talks with Naughton weren't we? But then Spurs jumped in and bought them both for a combined fee. I get the feeling Harry just didn't want us to have good players.

Mind you, one turned out to be an England international, getting PFA Young Player of the Year 2012, getting in the U21 European Championships 'Team of the Tournament' 2011, and getting in the PFA Team of the Year 2011-12.

And the other one? Well, he was the one we were after.

Smith had told him days before in training I think, and the word at the time was that DFs old feller was telling everyone before the game he''d been sold to Newcastle.

I could never stand Smith. He gets the credit from some that he took the blows off Johnson on the chin and soldiered on. But he raked the cash in from Everton and he and his knuckledraging assistant made the club a very dark place for years. It'd be a close run thing between him and Kenwright in the hall of shame for me.

Yep I always thought he played the martyr role over the Ferguson transfer a bit too much. He was never going to walk out of such a high profile and well paid (and privileged) job over it.

Good to have you back slaughtering all asunder Davek.

Surely you can argue Torres is a disaster? Mainly because he cost so much. I suppose that goal against Barcelona paid a lot of his contract back so maybe it evens out?

I always thought Jesper Blomqvist was a pretty big waste of money for us

It was in the 92nd minute and they were already going through on away goals so it never counted for much.

Kroldrup ended up making a respectable career with Fiorentina. Something was up with that whole situation. He had brilliant distribution.

My thoughts exactly.

He was written off by Evertonians after one match (shocking, I know) and then goes to Serie A and plays very well for Fiorentina. Now perhaps the pace of the Premier League may not have agreed with him but I certainly don't believe he was given enough time to impress or adapt.

I think you're right that there was more to it than we were lead to believe.

Araz Abdullayev is the oddest in recent times. I still have no idea what that was all about.

Anderson Silva was along the same lines. Struggled for ages to get a work permit for him by loaning him out and all that, finally get one plays 2 game and gets binned off. He didnt even look bad in the games he played!

I remember we signed some Brazilian lad, his name might have been Rodrigo. He broke his leg just after signing for us and left after he recovered.
