Fresh Torres injury concern

Fernando Torres is a doubt for Liverpool’s key Merseyside derby with Everton at the weekend after picking up a knock in Spain’s friendly with Italy on Wednesday.

Torres came into the international encounter with a cloud hanging over him after picking up rib and ankle injuries in a bruising encounter with Manchester United on Sunday.

The fleet-footed forward shrugged off the knocks to take his place up front for Luis Aragones’ side, but limped out of the game at half-time following a clash with Marco Materazzi.

Torres’ replacement scored the only goal of the game, Valencia’s in-demand striker David Villa firing home a stunning volley into the top corner.

It is not yet known the extent of Torres’ injury, but he will be assessed by Liverpool’s medical team ahead of Sunday’s game with Everton.

Its also on the [Poor language removed]'s website. Hahaha they are shitting themselves

He'll play, it was probably a pre arranged agreement between the national manager and Billy Bunter that he'd be withdrawn at half time.

I didn't watch the match but I'd like to wager that Materazzi battered him the whole time he was on for diving and getting him sent off in the champions league.

Rafael Benitez is positive that the Fernando Torres, scorer of 27 goals this season, will be available for the derby against Everton after sustaining ankle and rib injuries against the Scum last Sunday.

Torres missed the last Goodison derby with an adductor injury sustained on international duty.

Benitez has said on the Offish website “At this moment I think he will be fit for Sunday.”

“He lost one day with Spain but he’s back now and I think he will be ready for the game, and hopefully he’ll then be available for us on Sunday.”

Fernando Torres was fit enough to train with the Spanish national team ahead of their match with the Italian national team, with the Spaniard (pictured in action) playing the first 45 minutes of their friendly before being substituted by eventual goal-scorer David Villa.

Alvaro Arbeloa also made his Spanish national team debut when he came on for Sergio Ramos.

flup me. if he does not play they will have crouch and kuyt up front. our defence will play them all day.

he is a quality player and without him liverpool are a different team.

Take Torres and Gerrard away from their team and they are worse than Sunderland. The only other player I'd rate is Babel. He seems quite lively but incredibly (lucky for our defense) only right footed. He can't even control the ball with his left!

Call me crazy but I'd love to see Babel in an Everton shirt. I think that guy can play and has the skills.

If he has got a niggling injury and does play on sunday, he's not gonna be top of his game (but still a bit tasty) where I'm sure we'll kick him all over the place.

Saying that, the Spanish Waiter has to think about Arsenal the following week (and again for the Champs League) so..will he risk him? Or is he alright and its the papers chatting [Poor language removed]?

he'll play and im glad he will. No excuses from them lot should we win

Who gives a [Poor language removed] about excuses?
If we win I am going to phone every single one of them up and laugh, I dont care if it came off Neville's arse after a deflected penalty from a Johnson dive in the 97th minute with Liverpool down to 7 men. I wouldn't give a [Poor language removed].
You can blame all this anger on Emlyn Hughes, the [Poor language removed]. But yeah, the jammier the victory the better, we owe them one.
