I've spoken to many Bulgarians about this, in this country and in Bulgaria. Some well qualified people said they'd never leave Bulgaria, others due to the wage liked the UK but would return home every so often and support their families. The UK of course has some benefits but not entirely. There are a lot of proud Bulgarians.
Kinda similar to the Polish I'd imagine, work like mad here then take the money back home and buy property. Over the last 11 years Poland has changed a lot. ;)

I can talk about many other benefits of living in Bulgaria, depending whether you are living north, east, south or west. There is the Aegean sea with the Halkidiki peninsular within a few hours drive, there's Istanbul the 6th largest city and biggest city in Europe a 7 euro price away. There's Bucharest a historically significant city less than an hour away to the north. Then there are both Thessaloniki and Belgrade a short distance away, respectively the worlds 6th and best party city in the world. Bulgaria is a great country to live in.

I forgot to mention Skopje, that's a fast changing city although with some public grievances, the city is being developed at the cost of public money. Anyway it is close to Bulgaria, like Ohrid, it is another attraction to the residency.

Ohrid is lovely. Skopje was a grey commie block mess first time I went. One of my best mates is from Veles :)

Let's be honest, they are all commie cities in that region, but you need to look beyond that. Some of the revival buildings are gorgeous for example. Skopje is reinventing itself based alongside the river with it's most esteemed citizens, Mother Theresa and Alexadner the Great. If you don't like commie architecture don't go to Sofia, go to Plovdiv instead. To be honest I don't mind the commie architecture, I met a dutch fella who told me that the buildings are still there because they are indestructable, he said they are amazing on the inside. True to his word they are far nicer on the inside.

It is true they are nicer on the inside, but hideous to look at, as is the Japanese designed tower blocks post the earthquake. There's a massive lack of top quality accommodation in Skopje- your company could help that! I haven't been to Sofia since 2006.

Sofia is quickly developing, you only need to google it, it is the fastest growing EU city with many new developments happening all the time. It has changed a lot since 2006, Garanti Koza and many other companies are changing the city, the bigest developments are to the tourism sector and start-ups. It has the lowest corporation tax in the EU and many foreigners go there to exploit the local talent and bring others to the region.

I'd probably only be bothered buying in Skopje as I have mates there. I unfortunately don't have a business I can move anywhere- NHS slave.

How much do you think an NHS Dr earns? Could just about get on the property ladder! My wife's family did have property in Bulgaria but sold it after her father died.
Around 4 times the national average? Anyway if you aren't happy in your job why don't you try something else. For example buy a house with stables for £50,000 in bulgaria and run a riding establishment, if that aint your cup of tea, how about some other business (falconry, wildlife photography etc...) Don't do the falconry idea, that's my passion and ambition.

I'm happy in my job, not in it for the money, or I would of studied dentistry!
