...I actually played against him once. He was well past his best but I remember he was hard as nails. When most blokes kick you it doesn't hurt, but that wasn't the case with Tony Kay. Don't want to unveil any unknown family detail, but the last time I came across him was in 1978 running a bar called Big Bens in Benidorm. Best not say anymore, eh.

Wish you would write a blog or a book Eggs! Thats the second nugget you have dropped on us.

It was harsh on Kay...he knew the scam was on(Jimmy Gauld was, I think the 'ringleader') and simply had a bet. Have to say though, that having a bet probably effected his performance that day !

yeah maybe he could've done better than MotM *rolls eyes AND shakes head

His punishment seems off the scale relative to today's standards of misbehaving footballers - imprisonment and a life-ban? Unbelievable. Evidence used against him would probably not stand up either - a taped conversation from someone purposefully looking to incriminate him? Inadmissable m'lud.

Saying all that - he's got to have known that betting on your own team to lose is the most cardinal of sins [he'd be seen in a hell of a different light here if he had bet on us to lose whilst playing in the Royal Blue jersey]. Get caught doing that and you've just got to take the licks, no matter how disproportionate or unfair.
