There is, and the current success of the right / far right in the US should tell you what it is.
The people behind the funding are not fools and they have an awful lot of money - one of the funds behind the Middle East Forum (who paid Yaxley-Lennon's legal bill last year) put out between $49 million and $71 million every year but one 2012-2017, almost all of it on the usual type of pro-freedom, pro-business think tanks that infests politics on each side of the pond and which they directly benefit from (as the IEA expose, which sadly was followed by absolutely no action, showed last year).
The funding of the Hopkins / SYLs of the world are probably just to ensure that the people are angry at someone else.
I’ve followed (as in, paid close attention to) him and Hopkins for a while, and gone down the rabbit hole with their supporters online. It’s a very dark place, full of committed racism, dark money, conspiracy theory and bizarre hero worship.
He’s a very dangerous guy, less so because of his intentions, he is just a conman who’s fleecing the gullible out of their cash, but more the people he’s radicalising, and the stuff they peddle online. Grim stuff, but I find it utterly fascinating.

Indeed - that "justice for our boys" thing especially, which is perhaps the most bizarre conspiracy theory I have ever heard (though the bloke who was convicted got nowhere near enough jail time).
Yeah, the amount of far right independent news outlets they peddle is very worrying. A rich diet of fake news, conspiracy and unsourced opinion peddled as fact.
Impossible to engage with them, and most interactions end up with a bombardment from related accounts who spend large amounts of the day backing each other up with their narrative. Hard to know the scale of it, but his supporters will lap this up.

He got 9 months, but will do half that, then take off time served, so about 10 weeks.

It makes millions, he even said it himself, he was rich by 25, just for hating muslims. The hardcore white supremacists despise him for his links to Israel. Unfortunately had a few run ins with those buggers. Still class Yaxley-Lennon as more dangerous due to his superior funding giving him a greater reach.
Hopkins is hilariously bad at the hate-for-pay schtick.

Spot on that. A close friend of mine for over 30 years had fallen victim to this, he won’t have a word said against Lennon and considers him a national hero. It’s reached the point where I won’t drink with him anymore. Sad really
