Nah, you're ok mate.

"The Jewish doctrine of Marxism rejects the aristocratic principle of Nature and replaces the eternal privilege of power and strength by the mass of numbers and their dead weight. Thus it denies the value of personality in man, contests the significance of nationality and race, and thereby withdraws from humanity the premise of its existence and its culture. As a foundation of the universe, this doctrine would bring about the end of any order intellectually conceivable o man. And as, in this greatest of all recognizable organisms, the result of an application of such a law could only be chaos, on earth it could only be destruction for the inhabitants of this planet.

If, with the help of his Marxist creed, the Jew is victorious over the other peoples of the world, his crown will be the funeral wreath of humanity and this planet will, as it did thousands of years ago, move through the ether devoid of men. Eternal Nature inexorably avenges the infringement of her commands. Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord."

(That's not populism, that's vile anti-Semitic hatred)

It may well be, but like I said, his ticket in the early days of power was pretty much locked into the populist line. The persecution etc etc came later.

Sorry, but do you not see how that ideology will almost inevitability lead to some sort of systematic oppression @roydo?

I mean, the book were released in 1925. You can't pretend that people weren't aware of this.

Of course. Maybe a lot of Germans were not as intelligent as you are, and were instead taken in by the rampant populist approach he took in tapping into the national mood music.

Am I losing my mind here?
Well one of us defiantly is at this stage mate because we seem to be debating two entirely different things.

Literally the only thing I've disagreed with you about here is your original claim that Hitler was elected to power which is demonstrably untrue.

I agree with pretty much everything you've said apart from that. It was very obvious what Hitler and the Nazi's were all about from very early on and the pathetic excuse that people didn't realise what was happening till it was too late is nonsense.

With the benefit of hindsight it is. At the time, he rode a populist/nationalist ticket. He had an open goal following the WW1 settlement.

Number of reasons:
  • The sanctions we put on the people of Germany pressed them to the edge.
  • The fact that the communists and the social democrats were too ideologically driven to work together to unify as a force for anti-hatred.

I'm surprised that you haven't figured out that I'm actually quite thick, to be honest.

I cringed a bit when I posted that mate; I meant it to mean not everyone is/was as "into" politics as you are, ergo, would be easier to mop up with a populist/nationalist ticket.

Anyrate, crossword time.

Which is kinda the point I was arguing.

There's a lot of truth to this but all the same when you look at the amount of people who attended his rallies and read his book at the time it's completely inexcusable that so many people willingly voted for such a monster because he was very open in both about what he was and believed. The man had been in jail for a putsuch against the government. Anyone who didn't at least have an idea what he was about at election time in 1932 must of been a little bit dense.

Indeed. Or seduced. Or both.

Point I was making is that he didnt publicly announce the death camps etc.

Mein Kampf sold 240,000 copies in 7 years up until Hitler became Chancellor. The population in Germany at that time was 67 million, so it would be fair to say it wasn't a raging success. I've read it and can fully understand why, unless you like turgid rambling prose, never mind the execrable content.
No surprise then it was only a best seller from 1933 onwards ; lucky newlyweds were given a copy from the State - It made Hitler a millionaire.
