I'm not sure I agree on DCL v Solanke.

For starters, their youth team striker is being flanked by Mane and Salah.

In any event, they had all of the ball so it's far easier for him to be high up the pitch, with people around him and shuttle in small spaces to try and get a goal. DCL had the width of the pitch to cover on his own.

All i'm saying is,

If we had gone there with Bolasie on the wing and a striker who reads the game far better than DCL and had held the ball and brought us in the game, you'd have seen a better passing percentage.

The fact we gave the ball away so much is directly linked to fatigue and the fact we were under the cosh from minute 1.

There is no pace in the team so counter-attacking was completely nullified.

All we could do is sit in and try and scrape through it.

Of course, it won't be tolerated if we do the same with a fully fit / balanced squad but for the purposes of yesterday all context needs to be considered.

I'm sorry mate but no-one's going to be having that. Premier league footballers unable to pass the ball properly after 5 minutes because of fatigue??? Under the cosh or not, you can't say 'directly linked to fatigue'...

Them the polar opposite starts happening - they're labelled rubbish or not good enough. Where the truth is development takes time and patience, even in the best players.
Thats absolutely true. The fact that he has been a bit lost lately doesnt mean fans should get too worried. He clearly has great witz and heart too...but needs to develop on physicality and explosivines

I'm talking about across the 90 minutes.
The poor passing in the early parts was because a high energy Liverpool pressed us into having an isolated front man. They could do that because we had no pace outwide.
As the game wears on, the pressing begins to temper but the energy has been and continues to be sapped from our lads in watching Liverpool move side to side.
Get to minute 60 / 70 and all we can do is keep shape and hang on. Which is exactly what happened until Rooney's moment of brilliance.

Did well when he came on. Brought energy and forward momentum. Looked more like the player we saw last season than at any other time this season. Hope he's in for Morgan next game.

Wish he would release the ball sooner, but I think it was important that he came in and contributed in taking it forward without being afraid of looking for the ball.
Hopefully he will reach his real form soon.

i didn't think it was possible to find a player who loses control of the ball whilst running with it more than barkley

mission accomplished

Niasse :)

Saying that begs the question

"If someone is never truely in control of a football, can they actually ever lose control of it?"

Looked a lot more Tom Davies when he came on.

Probably helps that people are fighting for posititions now, rather than just waiting for the clueless merry-go-round to plonk them back into the team on the next rotation.
