Missing Tom Davies atm....he brings forward runs & positive play to our team...
Suspect he has been sacrificed for more reliability & experience which is a shame as he was coming on as a young player with lots of potential....

We need him back now as we got Walcott & Tosun that need support....
Seems to me we miss whoever is out the team. Their reappearance usually makes a mockery of that

He's been absolutely terrible this season, but so have most of our players. He defo needs regular game time, the injury to McCarthy might help with that now.

Would love for him to succeed with us but I think the fact he is a local lad he gets away with much more, he has been equally as bad, if not worse than Schneiderlin the snake.

Impossible.

Plus context is everything.
Every young player goes through numerous patches of poor form. Lukaku did. Stones. Deulofeu. An expectation that he won't is at best unrealistic.

Probably did need some time out of the team but he should always be at least on the bench.

Your subs should be able to change a game. Pointless having two centre backs on the bench but hey ho, that's Sam for you.

I agree with him being young and that is why I said he needs to play, but people go on in here like he hasn't been completely awful. I can't think of one game where he played well this season.

His poor form has been since August, which is why personally I think a loan deal would be for the best. Get him away from Goodison for a few months and hopefully he will come back a better player.

How McCarthy was ever picked ahead of him is a mystery to me!

OK, so he’s had a dip in form. He’s always alert & looking to play it quick. He makes things happen. Great option from the bench when we need to pick up the pace of a game.

He did last season, can you tell me one game he has done it this season? I honestly can't think of any. He gives the ball away more than most when he's on the pitch.

He needs a creative driving player with him, who gets on the ball alot.

It's no coincidence he played well with Ross, and vice versa.
Exactly, his game revolves around getting the ball down and playing. If there is no one else in the team who can or will do the same then he's going to suffer. You can also reverse it. Last year I don't think it was a coincidence that Ross' form picked up when Davies came into the team.

I can tell you two, immediately off the top of my head, both this season. He set up Niasse's first goal against Bournemouth with an excellent pass and also set up Rooney's second goal against West ham from the right (though that did take a slight deflection).

I am very much in the 'for' Davies camp, think he's a good player and an excellent prospect. I'm not sure he's good enough to be the player that perhaps we would like him to be, though, he may be more of a 7 out of 10 player rather than an 8 or 9. We should get behind our youngsters.

I forgot about the Bournemouth goal, that was a good pass. I think everyone wants him to succeed and progress as he showed glimpses of becoming a very good player last season, keeping more experienced players out of the team.

I just think he has been let off lightly this season due to him being a local lad, even though on the whole he's been terrible. I'm all for protecting youngsters to get the most out of them and maybe that's why he hasn't been getting as much game time as he might have had he played better, but I also think if we give them too much leniency they go backwards in the same way Barkley did when Martinez was telling everyone he was brilliant when really he was distinctly average more often than not.

As I said previously, I do think a loan move to another Prem or Championship club would help him progress a lot more than playing in what is a terrible team at the moment.
