Before you get all het up about it we need to see the detail. I mean as long as it's less than 6 years at 120k pw then I'm sure we can all agree on this one. Right lads? Lads? Laaaaaaads!?

Davies is prone to injuries too. You can’t dress this up as a deal that makes sense. It’s a Bill Kenwright sentiment decision.

I am seeing it as it's cheaper to retain him as centre mid depth than go out and buy another CM (which we'd have to do) so we can spend every penny we've got on forwards.

We need up upgrade every area of the pitch, not just the forwards. We’re going to need to buy a midfielder at some point because Gana is turning 34 soon.

But if you can only do one of those things this Summer which do you pick? A 4th choice CM or the only other striker we've signed in the past 4 years for actual money that isn't Maupay.

Someone like Warrington could surely play the Davies role of coming on for the last 5 minutes 15 times a season. This makes no sense in any way for me whatsoever.

It's cheaper to keep Davies than it is to go out and sign a Martinez or a Krauss and that's the bottom line.

….it’s absolutely not the bottom line. He‘s cheaper for a reason and a relegation will cost the club an awful lot more than signing Martinez or Krauss for relatively low fee.

Not moving the ineffective on at the first opportunity is indefensible, surprised you feel this is sensible.

..…an effective striker has been priority for 18 months but when you get an opportunity to move a totally ineffective player off the books then you have to take it. If Davies leaves it doesn’t make us worst off.

I actually like the lad but you have to move deadwood on or we’ll never improve. It’s a disastrous strategy to keep players who simply can’t help the cause.

So you'd be happy going into the season with 4 CM's covering 3 positions and then just academy lads as backup?

My view is that this is an outrageous decision.

The players like Martinez and Krauss that have been linked for under £5mil make far more sense than extending the contract of a player we should be happy to move on at the first opportinity.

As @Nymzee says its true that its a low cost option -- but if you back your scouting department then if those 2 players (or others above) perform in the league then its instant value.

Now it makes more sense why Price wanted to leave and probably wont have thrilled Warrington either.

Need to see evidence that a £5mil fee is used impressively elsewhere.
