2022/23 Tom Davies

We already have Gana, Onana, Doucoure and Garner to play in central midfield . We are not paying money to sign a fifth and going through the season with just four is a bit light so Tom Davies offers cover at minimum cost. I don't think there is anybody from the academy ready to step up.

I am not convinced that Tom will sign the contract as he may want to play more regular football and he may need to go elsewhere to get that.

I’m not fussed about him staying. Do we need better? Absolutely. But we have much more pressing issues than having to find a midfielder who is seemingly happy to play a bit part role and seems to be well liked in the dressing room.

Ideally, we’d ship him out and go and buy an instant starter, but whatever funds we have must be used for the attack and if there’s any change left possibly a fullback/centre back.

1. He's been offered a new deal, maybe wait to see if he accepts in the next 3 weeks.
2. You don't know what wage or contract length he's even been offered.
3. We play 3 midfielders and currently have 5 (Onana, Gana, Garner, Doucoure, Davies) you say "just use Warrington" but the highest level he's played is League 1.
4. You're still being ridiculously OTT saying it's ruined the window. How about the deal we offered Coleman who's on higher wages than Davies and might come back from this injury a lame donkey.

….it’s a bad decision because he’s not an effective back-up. Improving your squad means building from the top down. We’ve been linked with some promising (and cheap) defensive midfielders. The aspiration is that a newcomer improves the team/squad.

Players like Holgate and Davies are expensive white elephants who merely add numbers rather than add quality. We should be moving deadwood on when their contracts finish because they will never move otherwise.

It's cheaper to keep Davies than it is to go out and sign a Martinez or a Krauss and that's the bottom line.

So you're fuming over complete speculation then?

Again, maybe grab a beer, you're going so OTT it's just funny now.
It's not really speculation. What sense does it make for him to take a lowball contract from us for lets say 12 months? He's 25, he should quite easily be able to get a 3 year contract with any club, at least. The new club's wages won't be anything close to what we pay him now but it makes far more sense for him to go to let's say Norwich on £20k for 4 years than stay here, even saying we halved his wages on £25k for 3 years.

But he hasn't accepted the deal yet... so maybe wait for that part.

….it’s absolutely not the bottom line. He‘s cheaper for a reason and a relegation will cost the club an awful lot more than signing Martinez or Krauss for relatively low fee.

Not moving the ineffective on at the first opportunity is indefensible, surprised you feel this is sensible.

I’m 100% convince our academy players can offer more as a 5th choice backup.

Davies offer very little in many aspect of his game. It’s just pointless to keep him.

But if we have limited funds they 100% need to go on forwards. We can't do it all in one window.

I am not party to our finances to say if it's sensible or not sensible, I have no opinion on it, just trying to give people who instantly want to fume a bigger picture scenario.
