Tom Cleverley

There's no "guarantee" of course mate, but in the glimpses I've seen of Davies he already looks like he can do whatever Cleverley does (not much) so why not play him instead? Plus Davies can only get better whereas The Clev won't.

Thats just total guesswork though.

Koeman works with them every day. He will know if and when Davies is ready, and he obviously does as he has played him more than Cleverley so far this season.

Cleverley isnt a world beater or anything but he is nowhere near as bad as some are making out. He is a steady hand more than anything I suppose. Maybe he doesnt want to burn Davies etc out?

Cleverly isn't terrible, he's just not good enough to start for a team with our ambitions.

If he's fine being a squad player, fine having him as 4th/5th choice cover for anywhere in the midfield. He's versatile enough.

On a positive note, remember that long pass to Lukaku vs Stoke (I think)? Brilliant 60yard pass that Lukaku took down on his chest and scored from.

It'd be the one disappointment I'd have with Koeman so far is this was to happen. A player that should have been left in the skip with Martinez shouldn't be holding back promising youngsters who are probably already as good as him and will be infinitely better with game time.
Fully agree. Zat did warn us about this in fairness. I'm still hopeful it won't happen as he does have the likes of Davies, Walsh and Dowell training with the first team squad, so at least they are in his plans.

Its been five league games! Cleverley has barely featured, Davies has probably played more than him this season.

There is zero guarantee that any of these youngsters will be better than him no matter how promising they look.
I think Cleverley had a bit of a niggle last couple of weeks which is probably why Davies has been on bench. Clev was on the bench for the first 3 games.

Its better for the their development to play every week for the U23s.

Its not as if we have underperforming players in the team, Davies isnt better than Barry or Gueye, hes debatable whether hes better than McCarthy at 6, but hes injured, hes DEFO not better than Besic, whos injured, but he his better than The Clev, but as I say, the U23 seems to be the focus for Davies this year.

Except it's you who is wrong and as soon as Koeman came in, he dropped him.

If McCarthy was fit he wouldn't even be on the bench for the league games.

Has he had more than, what, three decent games since he's been here? I doubt it.

He's a squad player, who is there to play if others cant, so the fact he isn't first choice isn't an issue in the slightest, he's not here to be a starter, he's here to be back up

Not sure how long you went back on the conversation mate. We were saying that, whilst Macca and Besic are injured, we'd prefer to see the likes of Davies get a place on the bench over Cleverley. Can't do their development any harm.

I agree that the 3 lads I mentioned are going to be part and parcel of the under 23s this year as Unsy tries to instil a winning mentality in them. Love them to win their league and do well in this Football League trophy.

Think we will at least try and sign a player for the middle of the park in January, which would push The Clev and possibly McCarthy further down the pecking order.

It really can do harm though. Playing every week or sitting on our bench? or heaven forbid he does get a decent run, doesnt score a hat trick every week and all the idiots start shouting "TURN" at him etc.

Davies is still very young.

God the amount of times people shouted TUUUUUUUUUUUUUURN at Ross at Saturday, utter joke.

Oh I agree. and I can see either/both of them leaving, either in Jan or the summer. Not Besic though obviously;)

But we're only talking 5/10 min run outs here and there mate. And once Macca's back he won't even get near the bench apart from league cup games. He'll still get his game time in for the under 23s as they rarely play on a weekend.

I honestly don't think he'll harm Davies's development at all

That's a red herring created so that there is yet another stick to beat him with

I'd say the fact Davies played against Sunderland is a good example that Koeman trusts him to hold his own

I'd expect us to have a line up along the lines of this tomorrow

Stekky
Holgate, Mori, Williams, Oviedo
Gibson or Cleverly, Davies
Deulofeu, Barkley(C), Mirallas
Valencia

So I don't expect Davies will be hurt by having Cleverly around at all

We'll see, I might be wrong, but I doubt it
