Paul Lambert has revealed Aston Villa have an option to sign Tom Cleverley in January. The midfielder is on loan from Manchester United and Lambert has been impressed with him since his summer arrival.

Villa can make the deal permanent in January but Lambert will wait until the transfer window opens before making any decision. Lambert said: 'We have an option on Tom. We have not gone into great detail but he has played well. He was the one lad who was busy on Saturday (at Everton), he has so much to offer.

'He's a good guy, a good professional and does everything high tempo even when he trains. 'Whatever happens in January will happen, the option is there but we still have a couple of months to go.

Would be great if we could sell for a few mills Gibson and release Osman to replace them with Delph and Cleverley on a free transfer in the next summer. Our central midfield would be decent for years coming.

On the villa forum all of them saying he's awful and just a poor Westwood.

And then theirs fans on here gushing over signing him and even worse martinez entertaining the idea of it. Deary me

Apart from his strike at the end he had a poor game tonight. However he was probably their best player against us and also thought he was good against City who only scored late in the game.

He has made six appearances for Villa, missed their preseason and has been playing in a team in a bad form - bit early imo to be jumping to conclusions on how he'll do this year.

Well that's fair, but they've lost 5 on the trot. A player on loan isn't going to be drawing the plaudits is he? He played well tonight. I'll be happy with him on a free or whatever a free is these days.

I thought he was there best player tonight tbh, they are absolute turd though so his level may have been Brett Angel standard. Some managers just love certain players though and if Martinez thinks he can offer something then great. It's the same with Osman, we look at things from a fans point of view and think he's past it/gash but managers have set instructions for each player and obviously Martinez believes Osman delivers what's requested, as did Moyes before him. I'm not saying I agree but I trust Martinez more than my judgement on a player as sometimes it's players who just look crap and wind us up that the manager and teammates love because they "do a job"

I dont see how anyone get be disappointed with a free transfer? An england international at that, shall we persist with Osman in that role? We have some youth coming through but none that can do that role just yet.

I like Cleverley, he would fit in nicely with the midfield we are building. For some reason hadn't thought of him as a replacement for Osman but that makes sense, there's similarities.
