8 mill sounds too much to me, but I trust Bobby Brown shoes. I remember the posts about McCarthy being gash and everyone (including me) wanting Naismith nowhere near our team, if only we had Crystal balls hey, how wrong can we be.

He should know about the lad as he managed him for a year so let's see, let's hope we're talking about about him playing great in next season's champions league for us if Bobby wants him, but for 4 mill at most maybe.

If he's in his last year then surely we could get him for £2m or so. He's really not as bad as people are making out and Bobby will know how to use him.

poor mans Lee Cattermole.

lol mate, think partly thats because hes been getting played and asked to do a role he is no way suited for, look at how bog average Barkley has looked on the left the other day and when he got played in the holding role vs palace

What were your genuine opinions on McCarthy, Alcaraz, Barry and McGeady mate before they signed for us?

made up with Barry the unsung hero of City's midfield, was happy with McCarthy but sceptical of the £13 mil price tag, wasn't bothered about Alcaraz or Mcgeady tbh as both cheap deals but Cleverley is a terrible player, like has been said the lads even had a petition against him from being picked for England I would rather Joe Allen than him and Joe Allen is gash!

Canas, Jedinak, Medel and Carrick are all decent players though. Stats don't necessarily reflect the ability of a player, although I do accept your point.

I wasn't on about his overall ability, I was on about his ability to create goal scoring chances. We don't need another central midfielder who can keep possession high but doesn't have the vision to pick out players in the final third.

Thing is mate, i have not been a fan of Cleverley at United for the past couple of years, but it's undeniable that when Martinez had him his level of performance was much much higher, he's been square pegged into round holes at United rather than developed and allowed to play in his proper position over time
He's never ever gonna be a defensive mid and united have tried to have him doing all the hard running for carrick, not his game at all

Isn't that in part down to him being given a clearly defined role at untied to be a mccarthy type for them, something he clearly isn't, or stuck on the wing to provide defensive cover against a dangerous winger, as i said a bit earlier, he has been horrible misused at united and thrown around wherever their was a gap in the team introles he isn't suited too, look at the marked difference when he was played as a attack minded mid at wigan

I'm all for backing Bobby's judgement on this one, given he's seen him for a whole season.

But if we spend £8m on a player in the final year of his contract ill be livid.

If Cleverley is gonna play the number 10 role does that mean Barkley would be in a holding role? Because I feel that'd be backwards if they did that.

While I'll agree he was more attack-minded with Wigan, he still only managed 2 assists in 1.600 minutes mate. And that was under Bobby's management.

We need someone who can get 10+ per season. Unfortunately, these sort of players usually cost premium prices.
