Everton have warned fans there is little in the way of funds to strengthen the side come the winter transfer window.
David Moyes' side have been linked with a host of signings come the New Year, including Newcastle's former Liverpool striker Michael Owen.
The club even unveiled pre-tax profits recently, although assistant manager Steve Round says that does not exempt the club from the credit crunch once the transfer window re-opens.
"The figures this week show the club is being run exceptionally well and is moving in the right direction," Round stated.
"It shows we're solid, with solid foundations, and that we're doing everything right, both on and off the field. It's another feather in our cap.
No money

"But as for money to spend, no, I don't think so. In the past funds have been made available, but it's having them there to make.
"We're in this situation with the credit crunch where everybody is having to tighten their belts, and we're no different.
"We don't want to descend into a situation in which Leeds found themselves, or where you over spend and all of a sudden the bottom is pulled out and the club plummets.
"At the minute we can carry on and keep the same squad through to the end of the season. Maybe, touch wood, we'll be able to add one or two faces in January.

Continual process

"Recruitment, though, is an ongoing process, it always is. We've been looking all season, and we'll continue to look coming up to the window."
Despite hinting at keeping their transfer chequebook hidden away next month, the club have stated they are under no pressure to sell any players.
Newcastle have been linked with former Wigan left-back Leighton Baines and Round says players will not be sold unless the deal is good for the club.
"We're under no pressure to sell any player at all," he continued. "We've a really good, together squad, and we'll only sell if it's the right deal for Everton."

Were borke for sure!!! :( Really dont think this is mind games for once!!

At least we're being honest and realistic and as DM says by no means are we the only ones so hopefully there'll be a few bargains to be had in Jan

No big surprise there but I fully anticipate a few negative nancys popping up after the January transfer window complaining that we didn't do anything in the transfer market.

We might pull off a loan or two but that will be it.

does anyone else think they have totally gone overboard on this "we have no money" lark? it's brought up in interviews about totally unrelated things. it's so overstated that i'm beginning to thiink it's a bluff.......
