No, I'm talking about attackers.

I dont get how Madrid are big favourites for this. They've been left for dead domestically: 16 points behind Barca and just 5 wins in the last 10 games. United have the comfort of knowing the PL is under control and that, unlike Madrid, the CL isn't the last desperate hope of a successful season.

Probably because they have a much better team. And Ronaldo, Di Maria, Ozil and Benzema are all attackers. Their roles are overwhelmingly concentrated on the offensive side of the game.

League form really doesn't connect greatly with CL form, as evidenced by Bayern Munich's progress last season despite Dortmund dominating the Bundesliga. Or Chelsea, who won it and were awful in the league.

On paper, sure. They've done much much worse than man U on the actual pitch this season.

And Chelsea were garbage in the league last season and won the CL.

Barcelona have been dominating in the league and got turned over by Celtic.

Bayern should have won the CL last season after losing the German League for the second season in a row.

etc.

That's true. But I still dont get how Madrid are odds on and United 4/1 outsiders. Not sensible odds given the momentum of the two clubs going into this game.

Sure. Sometimes bad domestic teams step it up in the CL. But Real haven't been great in the CL this year, either.

They've yet to look a better team than Man U at all this season. Doesn't mean they won't but Dave's right on current form Man U are the better team.

Big players raise their game for big occasions. I'd be shocked if Madrid played anything like they have in the league.

In terms of Goal threats I'd say Real win that overwhelmingly. I'd also say they've got much, much better options to come off the bench.

In midfield they are more mobile with more intelligent footballers who have more big game experience.

I expect Man Utd to be very well drilled at the back whereas I don't think real have got enough quality to keep Man Utd out away from home but I can't see Man Utd stopping Real getting at least two away goals.

I love these games though. Mourinho was right.

I reckon United will hurt them, tbh. van Persie is at the peak of his career and Rooney is vastly experienced in these matches now. You have to give United the edge in attack, and I dont think their midfield is as weak as some suggest - there's a lot of creativity in there. They may look to stop Ozil with a man marker.

Sticking my neck out for a United win tonight dave
