I think he sees the PL as something he can come back for easily enough next season when he gets strikers that actually score goals wedded to the rest of the team. The CL, on the other hand, might not present itself with an opportunity like this for a few years.

Not sure that's true. It's worth nowhere near as much as Champs league obviously, but there is a degree of presitge as well as some financial incentive.

Nah. I think he's seen enough of the officiating and media frenzy and realises he needs to cut his losses.

At least in the CL they wont have to put up with Kopite loving refs and a Kopite media dead set against them.

Football is subtlely fixed and has been for years. Not wearing a foil hat or anything but the officials conveniently miss fouls for some teams yet give pens for minimum contact to others. It is so blatant too.

look at it this way, the fa want a fired up England. What better way than to have the captain claim his first title pre WC and on the 25th anniversary of hilsborough.

Chelsea or City will need to do it the hard way (us for fourth too) as those 50/50s aint going the way we want sadly.
