Brendan is a lucky manager, i can't see why people don't see that.

He was a championship manager going from club to club, Reading Watford and then Swansea. Hell the year before he went up with Swansea he was the manager of reading and played them in the Playoffs! He wasn't some innotive coach, he was simply a young coach who wasn't good enough.

Then he got the swansea job ,with tactics and ethos already in place plus a good team built over 3 seasons. He carried on what Mcdermott, Martinez and Sousa had done before him and got them up. Remember Brian McDermott almost took them up the year before playing the same type of football. Reading were not long relegated from the premier league so still had financial muscle in the championship in reagrds to parachute payments so wtill a decent team.

So he gets them promoted, and his big job comes along on the back of what he was doing at Swansea. His team have now adapted and are pushing for the league at the most perfect oppertunity, fair enough. Except the amount of money he has spent on players not even at the club or not in the team is incredible. The board signed Sturridge and Counthino because Brendan clearly couldnt sign a decent player and fast forward to the following summer he repeats that feat by signing one decent player (sahko) and the rest crap again. He already had suarez there, as well as henderson and sterling who are first choice now.

My point is Rodgers is not an example of a good manager, it could well have been McDermott being praised for his management style and Kopite manager. He has been fortunate to be where he is. However if he builds on what he has and wins trophies and even the league then yes that will make him a good manager. Before that though he has been handed everything to him by everyone else and he has just had to sit there and smile.

Listen if he wins the League with this Liverpool side it will go down as one of the biggest upsets ever, Like him or not if he pulls it off he deserves every plaudit that will come his way

I agree 100%

If they were to to win the thing, and that is IF, then they would have done it in the first season for a long time that all their rivals are changing managers. Never happened before and probably won't again. Oppertunistic but still the perfect oppertunity.

Does not change two factors, Brendan is a lucky manager and they club have thrown money at the team until some of it stuck on the pitch.

I agree with the change of managers

I don't think you will see Spurs,City,Chelsea and Man U all with a new man in charge in the same season again

Chelsea's run in gives me hope though

There 9 games before they face Liverpool consist of Villa,Sunderland,Swansea,Stoke,Palace,Fulham

There two remaining fixtures after Liverpool are Norwich and Cardiff

Pages 2162 to 2172 of this thread are the most vaultable material on this forum. When this title is sorted out (that's in the coming 8 weeks or so when the pressure of getting vital results becomes a massive downward force for teams to handle) we'll look back at those posts and wonder at what form of hysteria hit the place.

Let's just remind ourselves that this lot have gone through a run of results in the last seven games getting 5 wins and two draws, very good form but they they still lie in 4th place and three points off 5th...basically where they've been since Christmas. Now go and take a look at the form of those above them - the one's who's 'wheels are falling off'...last ten games: Chelsea 7 wins/3 draws; City 8 wins/1 draw/1 loss; Arsenal 6 wins/3 draws/ 1 loss...compared with Liverpool's last ten of 6 wins/1 draw/2 losses. A purple patch for Liverpool is less than a normal day at the office for the real champions elect

Perspective eh?

can we drop the lucky thing? its a bit silly...it pretty much evens out over the course of the season, the toure own goal wasnt very lucky for them was it?

probably haha. As a club we will always struggle to be successful where others can afford to throw money at their problems in the hope that they will be fixed eventually, see liverpool paying 20mil each for downing and Henderson, 15 for adams and 35 for Carroll. Despite us having money we cannot afford to over pay for players, and we also need them to be successful long term in order to maintain our position and try to push into and near the european places. For this reason I think long term unless we are successful in the market that we will struggle to stay in the upper echelons of the League, because others can afford to fail three or four times and fifth time lucky get a Suarez. We cannot afford on a financial basis to fail even once. While Martinez and his style of play will go some way to reducing the impact of finances on our league positions, we need to get the quality players in our system too. We need an arteta 2003-2009 type player IMO, someone who can play the killer passes while also being able to retain possession in the way that pienaar does for us now. That comes expensively now, and we can't afford to screw up when buying sadly.

The Sh!te and Rodgers aren't lucky. Luck gets found out over a league campaign. They're right up there in the mix on merit. We're adding fuel to the "Bitters" fire by claiming otherwise.

Take our collective head out if the sand, and see them for where they are: in with a SERIOUS shout for the title. I absolutely perish the thought, but it's not due to them being spawny.

Although their pact with Lucifer still stands

So does title winning mentality and ability.

12 games to go and Liverpool are still 4th after their recent 'charge'.

That's where we're up to.

true, they also have to rely on 3 teams having poor run ins..arsenal possibly..but i cant see both chelsea AND city collapsing...i would have thought citys blip has ended now and they have a couple of home games to get back ontrack

still city for me

You're welcome mate.

People need to stop panicking and focus on likely outcomes. Unfortunately they look likely to grab a CL spot.

Hands up: that's something I didn't think they'd get (thanks Moyes, you bellend) but is now a firm probability unless Spurs can find another gear.

That's what's pissing me off at the moment, not some fantasy of them holding off the PL heavyweights in front of them.
