How do we win it, sorry but im abit confused with this league structure and relagation etc

Draw in December I guess, 4 teams will be drawn into each other for the SF, winners play the final (June afaik). So England have to win two match in a row to win the NL cup and a place for EURO 2020

Basically the four winners from Group A, play off in a final four knock out in Portugal in June. The winner gets a place in the Euro's, the remaining 3 still have to qualify.

The Top 4 are the 4 highest seeds for the Qualifying draw in December?
Ta mate.

Whats the deal with all these other groups?

Dont think the winners qualify for the euros mate, but the 4 semi finalists are guarenteed a ply off place if they dont qualify through their respective groups. I think anyway.

Basically, it's split into four groups.

They all follow the same pattern, just instead of having a "trophy", they're competing for a place in the Euros. The aim was to allow lesser teams a chance to qualify, (Scotland for example are hugely behind it, all you hear coming from McFadden atm). The winners of each group play their own semi finals to determine who gets in (It just gets really complicated if they've already qualified, as then the next best ranked team gets to play in the play offs and so on).

As it stands one of Georgia, Azerbaijan/Kosovo, Belarus and Macedonia are guaranteed a place in the Euros. So i see its incentive to be honest.

Ah yeah i get it now, nice one mate.

Dont know mate, but its been quite exciting tbf. Watching the reaction from other nations when winning shows its better than meaningless friendlies.

Oh i'm all for it.

It's actually been gripping, i definitely think England being decent has helped, but it's nice to see your Luxembourgs and your Belarus' getting points. Must be awful being the whipping boys always.

With the semi finalists its complicated but the previous post from barneygrumble was in essence correct but with some qualifications.

As most of the teams in Section A will qualify anyway its reasonably, in fact almost certain, that the winner will qualify normally and won't need this backstop of nations league Section A qualifying place, if so it would go to any of the other three nations who reached the semis, again unlikely to be used.

In fact almost all the twelve teams in Section A will qualify anyway and if this is the case an extra place cascades down to section B.

But in theory if England, Holland or France, Portugal or Switzerland failed to qualify normally, they would have their qualification assured if they either won this or that none of the other semi finalists needed it.

Those nations you mentioned are guaranteed a play off place mate, not a place in the finals

They played “Football’s Coming Home” at the final whistle and why not?

Enjoying this young England team enjoying themselves under a young England manager in front of a Wembley full-house. It is about building and not just resting on our laurels. It is about the depth of belief and desire to overturn a deficit against the nation who denied England a place in the World Cup Final.

Its another semi whatever the worth of the competition, and tbh the format is definitely better than the real Euros anyway.

Unlike friendlies there are no longer six or seven substitutes a side to disrupt and ruin any sort of competitive element to any friendly and sides having to pick their strongest possible available side within reason are two major advantages.

This tournament did have a lot of negative publicity and perhaps an unpromising promotion but it is proving it's worth, you only have to look at how Croatia celebrated beating Spain or the utter dejection on Ramos' face when England ran riot to see how much it means.

Everyone knows that Uruguay won a fledgling first World Cup competition, and while at the moment this is just a better option than the hated friendlies, it does have possibilities and even more so when the major competitions become ever more bloated and packed with substandard teams who just aren't up to it.

Only twelve of the better European teams are in Section A in tough groups of three where every match can mean something and then to just have a semis and a final which guarantees only quality teams and no over bloated and hyped up month long nonsense is perfect.

Who knows in twenty years or so the Nations league could supersede the existing Euros tournament in popularity with an eight or sixteen team finals rather than the 64 or 128 team one the existing Euros seems to be aiming for.

What has been really encouraging is that following the achievement of reaching a first World Cup semi-final since the 1990's in Italy, we haven't just thought that's it, but have carried on building and trying things.

We have changed formations and introduced 'new non World Cup' players in Barkley, Winks, Chilwell, Gomez and the hugely promising Sancho. Southgate knows where we are still deficient and is constantly looking to make those strides to build a competitive team and to put us in a position where we can look forward to future big tournaments with some expectancy rather than trepidation.
